I don’t even know where to start. Soccer has been one of the main aspects of my life for the past 4 years. That came to an end this past week. Despite this, I am extremely grateful for how it all turned out. My first three years playing this sport has taught me to be patient and disciplined. The fourth taught me perseverance. I waited and waited for my chance to prove myself and earn a starting position, and that chance came against Seymour when we were down 2-0. As soon as I went in, I knew I had to perform harder than I ever had before, so I did just that. This year, I had to have that same mindset. This year I have worked harder and harder every single time I touched the field, whether it was an easy game, or one everyone thought we would lose, I gave it my all. Throughout these 4 years, my teammates and I have improved more than I thought we could, and I am so proud of each and every one of us. I want to say thank you to every coach, player, family member, friend, and member of the audience for helping me, supporting me, cheering me on, and allowing me to grow. I am also beyond grateful for every accomplishment, mistake, win, loss, good call, bad call, and opponent that has helped make me the player I am today. Lastly, I would like to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to play this sport.

Hurricane Helene came through the southeast about a year ago. My family was one of the ones affected by the flooding. The weird thing is, I really don’t have a problem with that anymore. I mean, yeah, I lost a lot, and those things were important to me. I didn’t have a bed for months because my room wasn’t safe to sleep in. I lost my truck (I still really miss it). But I never truly complained or got angry because of any of it. Throughout all of this and everything else, I’ve had God by my side. He’s kept me from anger, from bitterness, and darkness. Yes God sent the flood, but He had a purpose and a plan. I am so grateful for the God-fearing man He has molded me into. Obviously I fail at times, but He loves me anyways, and He always forgives me. If I were to have tried to navigate that situation or any other trial He threw my way, there is no doubt in my mind I would have failed. Just as the disciples were fishing without Jesus, not catching a single fish, in John 21. The moment they turned and listened to His guidance, they caught 153 fish. That’s why I follow Him. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” -Psalms 119:105 by @eli_finchum
