Ending sex trafficking through prayer, awareness, intervention, and restoration.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Today we had an amazing team of volunteers from @hopelegacycollective come through and clean our safe home! We had a short time for Q&A and it was a great discussion. The truth is, not everyone knows about the widespread effects of human trafficking, and if we don’t tell them how will they know? Our online museum is a great resource that answers a lot of questions most people have about trafficking. This month we are going to be posting on IG elements of the museum as more and more people are now awakening to the growing problem of sex trafficking. #houston #houstontexas #soundoffreedom #soundoffreedommovie taken in Elijah Rising by @elijahrising

Trafficking is happening in our city, and you can be part of the response.

Elijah Rising began as a prayer meeting and grew into the work you see today: prayer, awareness, intervention, and restoration. While ending trafficking may feel like a big undertaking, we rely on God to bring restoration and freedom.

During the World Cup, @houstonsfirst followed our outreach teams into the streets of Houston. The result is a mini-documentary, and they’re screening it Tuesday, October 20, at their young adult service.

If you’ve ever wondered what Elijah Rising's work on the ground actually looks like, this is your chance to see it.

A new lawsuit seeks to hold several Houston hotels accountable for facilitating the trafficking of a 17-year-old girl on their properties. The woman who filed the lawsuit says hotel staff saw the warning signs and did nothing.

From our experience of doing outreach on the streets for years, we know hotels are major hubs of prostitution and trafficking. Hotel staff in Texas are required to receive anti-trafficking training. The question is whether they act on it when they see red flags or look the other way.

During the World Cup, we added hotels to our outreach routes. All we wanted was to make sure staff had the latest photos of missing children in the area. Several pushed back. In the past, awareness at hotels is what has helped recover victims.

What a special day with the seniors from Logos Preparatory Academy!

They joined us for a Van Tour to learn about the realities of human trafficking and what grooming can look like. Then, they made Christmas stockings for the women we serve to remind them they are seen, valued, and loved.

We love seeing the next generation put compassion into action. 💛 taken in Houston TX by @elijahrising

The gospel has the power to transform lives, and the cross reminds us that no heart is beyond Christ’s power to change. Jesus calls all people to repentance and calls His Church to bring the gospel into places that desperately need His love.

Thank you @woodridgebaptist for inviting us to speak during your Sunday services and making room for a difficult but necessary conversation. taken in Woodridge Baptist Church by @elijahrising

Today at @txwomans, we talked with future nurses about the realities of trafficking and how recognizing signs of exploitation can inform the care they provide.

Thank you, Dr. Loveth, for inviting us and for helping equip the next generation of healthcare professionals in our community! by @elijahrising

We're clarifying some of the most common myths about trafficking.

Many people assume trafficking typically looks like the movie "Taken": a girl is snatched off the street by a gang of men. But the reality is usually far less obvious, which can make it very difficult to recognize. That's why awareness is so important! by @elijahrising

A missing child in Harris County has been found and reunited with her family after detectives investigated a suspected trafficking operation.

According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, a woman allegedly posted the child online for trafficking and has been charged with promotion of prostitution. Detectives did not find the child at the first home they searched, but continued following leads and found her at a second location the next day.

Based on our experience, minors that have gone missing are often labeled as "runaways." Investigations do not typically go further. In this instance, we are grateful that law enforcement could identify the signs of trafficking and locate the child through online ads. Sadly, human trafficking is a major problem in Houston, and it is very upsetting that children are being sold online.

Cases like this show us why we all must raise our voices in awareness, and continue to prioritize reporting any level of suspicious activity.

Each week, our staff and Safe Home residents gather for chapel. This week, our guest speaker Catherine Gonzalez shared what happened after her cancer resurfaced in 2021. She thought she was coming to Houston to die. Through the power of relationship and prayer, she began to believe she could live, and years later she heard the words, “You are cancer-free.”

Healing can take longer than imagined, especially when the outcome seems already decided. Jesus offers peace in this place.

$870,306 raised. Our biggest gala ever.

What a night. Because you dared to reach, we raised a record-breaking $870,306 at this year’s Dare to Reach Gala.

These funds will help provide safety, healing, and the support women need to overcome trafficking, rebuild their lives, and walk a new path.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gave, attended, prayed, volunteered, and sponsored. To everyone who dared to reach with us, thank you for making this milestone possible.

Here are a few moments from a night we won’t forget. taken in The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston by @elijahrising
