This painting was a disaster until one move changed the whole thing. I was thinking about black for a long time before I took the leap. Come by Astor Weeks to see my solo show, invitation. Open Thursday-Saturday 13-6 pm, 209 Canal between Baxter and Mulberry Streets! This painting, Riverview, Winter is inspired by the view from mother kitchen in my childhood home overlooking the Saugatuck River in Westport, CT. I struggled to capture the magic of a Connecticut winter sunset, February and cold, snow on the ground, rhodedendrons curled tight. Arthur Dove lived in Westport too and painted there and there are some of his paintings that capture that specific light beautifully, a huge inspiration for me. #contemporarypainting #contemporaryart #kunst #winterlight #wintersunset #westportct @astor_weeks #arthurdove by @elisa__jensen

Trying to keep that cool Danish winter light in my mind as I work on some paintings inspired by January trip to Julland. This image of geese at sunset negotiating where they will settle for the night in the field by the fjord with calls and squawks. Maine, Birch Wood, 14 x 11 in. Managed to make this small work and a watercolor while in Maine last week. There were roosters howling in the other side of the wood. John likened their call to the “wailing of lost souls”.
