1. Being the hardest worker in the room is not the flex you think it is.

2. Your boss’s bad mood does not automatically become your bad mood.

3. If you keep saying yes to everything, people will keep asking you for everything.

4. Being needed at work can become an addiction.

5. You are not “bad at boundaries.” You are afraid someone might be disappointed in you.

6. Doing three people’s jobs does not guarantee you the promotion. (trust me)

7. If your entire identity is your job title, no wonder you're in a toxic relationship with burnout

8. You do not have to earn rest by completely exhausting yourself first.

9. Some of the stress you blame on your company is coming from your own perfectionism, control, and overachieving.

10. Your job probably needs you a lot less than your actual life does.

11. You keep calling yourself “reliable” when sometimes you mean “I have no idea how to say no.”

12. Sometimes the problem isn’t your workload. It’s your inability to let anything be done without you.

Before I escaped my own corporate burnout over 7 years ago, I spent YEARS believing every single one of these things. And more. 🫣

I wish someone had hurt my feelings a little sooner by screaming these truths directly into my overachieving brain.

Maybe I could have avoided my 3-year sentence in Burnout City!

So consider this your loving reality check from someone who has BEEN THERE.

If you're tired of feeling like you're in a toxic relationship with your job but still need (and love!) your paycheck, you need my new book, Break Up With Burnout. 🩷

1. My toxic trait is thinking, “It’ll be faster if I just do it myself.”

2. If I say “I’ll take care of it,” please know I already regret it.

3. PTO actually means Peeking Through Outlook.

4. My reward for being efficient is… more work.

5. I will overthink an email that says “Sounds good.”

6. Being the “go-to person” is cute until everyone starts going to you.

7. Sometimes “leadership potential” is just code for “she’ll do it.”

8. If nobody volunteers, give me three seconds. I’ll ruin my own day.

9. Logging off on time somehow feels illegal.

These thoughts are basically the high-achiever express lane to burnout. 🚩😂

And I can say that because I lived by them for almost my entire corporate career.

Eventually, they bought me a 3-year stay in Burnout City. Zero stars. Do not recommend.

Here’s one thing that helped me get out:

Take your job off the pedestal.

Your career can be important without being the most important thing about you.

Give your best energy to your work when you’re working—but save some of that ambition, attention and effort for your own life, too.

Your joy deserves a spot on the calendar.

1. Stop asking your corporate bestie for advice, they are also too burned out.

2. Hire a coach, therapist, or actual professional to help you change your perspective.

3. Do not confuse venting for healing. One feels good for 10 minutes. The other changes your life.

4. Learn how to say “let me check” before your mouth says yes and your soul says nooooo!

5. Stop treating every email like it arrived with sirens and flashing lights.

6. Your inbox is not in charge of your nervous system. You are.

7. Take lunch away from your desk. You do not need to optimize every part of your day.

8. Stop answering after-hours messages just to prove you are committed.

9. "Quick call" is never quick. Think before you agree.

10. Schedule your joy like you schedule meetings.

11. Do not make your job your whole personality. LinkedIn already has enough of that.

12. Build something outside of work that reminds you who you are.

13. Find a hobby that does not require approval from your manager.

14. Stop waiting for work to calm down. That is not a plan. That is a corporate fairy tale.

15. Take the PTO. Nobody gets a trophy for being the most exhausted person in the department.

16. If your body is giving you warning signs, stop calling it “just stress.”

17. Your eye twitch is not quirky. It is a memo from your nervous system.

18. Do not let one difficult leader convince you that you are bad at your job.

19. A bad meeting does not get to ruin your whole day unless you let it. Let it go!

20. Stop replaying conversations in your head like corporate Netflix.

21. Your peace needs boundaries, not another productivity hack.

22. You do not need to quit your job. You need to stop letting it own your mind.

23. Burnout recovery is not just doing less. It is redirecting your energy toward something that gives life back to you.

Tell me which one hits deep with you 👇🏻 by @elisha.meek

🚨 It's happening! I'm hosting my FIRST Break Up With Burnout Masterclass NEXT WEEK! 🎉

And I couldn't be more excited to bring this conversation to life!

I'm keeping this first masterclass intimate, so I'm only inviting a limited number of women.

But if you want to snag a spot, don't wait for me to find you!

DM me the word INVITE and I'll add you to the list!

So what's the masterclass about?

It's for the high-achieving corporate woman who loves her paycheck (and maybe even her job 😉) but is absolutely exhausted from giving her career so much emotional real estate.

We're talking about how to:

✨ Emotionally detach from work without checking out of your career.

✨ Stop allowing emails, deadlines, and other people's moods to dictate YOUR peace of mind.

✨ Rediscover who you are outside your job title.

✨ Start creating a life you're genuinely excited to clock out for.

And yes, you'll leave with practical tools you can start using immediately!

We'll keep it casual, have some laughs, and spend an hour talking about how to lose the burnout WITHOUT losing the paycheck.

📩 Want in? DM me INVITE and I'll send you the registration link

(You can also invite your work bestie too) by @elisha.meek

1. Leave your phone at home for a short walk. Let the world survive without your supervision.

2. Go somewhere without taking a picture or posting about it. Enjoy a moment nobody else gets to see.

3. Let someone be disappointed in you without rushing to fix it.

4. Say no without saying sorry—or submitting a five-paragraph explanation.

5. Leave work on time while something is still unfinished. There will always be something.

6. Let someone else handle a task differently than you would. Resist the urge to “just tweak it.”

7.Take your lunch break when your inbox is still full.

8. Ask for help before you reach the crying-in-your-car stage.

9. Sit quietly for 10 minutes without scrolling, cleaning, or making yourself useful.

10. Try a hobby you’re terrible at. Nobody is conducting your pottery performance review.

11. Admit that being “the dependable one” has become exhausting.

12. Tell someone what you need instead of hoping they notice.

13. Let a work message wait until you’re back at work.

14. Finish something at “good enough” instead of polishing it into next Thursday.

15. Cancel a commitment you no longer have the capacity to keep. Give them notice, then let the guilt pass.

16. Spend time on a dream before all your chores are done.

17. Have the boundary conversation you keep rehearsing in the shower.

18. Ask yourself, “What do I want out of this life?” Answer without listing what everyone else wants from you.

19. Protect time for something that earns you zero dollars, praise, or productivity points.

20. Get support—and practice the changes long enough for them to become your new normal.

1. Staying at one company for a long time is not always a lack of ambition.

Sometimes it means you learned how to build leverage, relationships, credibility, and a life around stability.

2. PTO is one of the most underrated wealth-building tools nobody talks about.

Someone is literally paying you while you rest, travel, live your life, and make memories.

Please use it.

3. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do for your dream is keep your day job.

It is much easier to build something meaningful when you are not begging it to pay your mortgage immediately.

4. You do not have to answer every email immediately to be excellent at your job.

Urgency and importance are not the same thing.

5. The people who look the busiest are not always the most productive.

Sometimes they are just the most visibly overwhelmed.

6. “Going above and beyond” should be occasional, not your permanent job description.

If extraordinary effort becomes your baseline, eventually nobody sees it as extraordinary.

7. Office politics exist, but you do not have to make them your full-time hobby.

Do good work. Build strong relationships. Protect your reputation. And stay out of mess that does not pay you.

8. Corporate can give you a beautiful life if you stop asking it to BE your life.

The benefits, income, friendships, opportunities, travel, education, and stability can be incredible. But it still needs to stay in its lane.

9. Your manager can completely change your experience of the exact same job.

Enough said.

10. And maybe the biggest lesson of all: Corporate was never the enemy.

My unhealthy relationship with work was. Once I stopped expecting my career to provide my identity, validation, purpose, joy, and entire sense of self…I could actually appreciate my career for what it was: an important part of my life, but not the main character.

And this to your corporate bestie 📨

She'll thank you later 🩷 by @elisha.meek

Here's some Monday morning fun for you 🤸

What is a Corporatette?

A. A tiny corporate office you carry in your purse. Comes with a laptop and unresolved action items.

B. A dance performed when someone cancels a meeting that could've been an email.

C. A high-achieving, overperforming woman working in corporate.

D. A French pastry filled with ambition and Outlook notifications.

E. A prescription-strength cardigan that protects you from office temperatures of Absolutely Antarctica.

Drum roll.... 🥁🥁🥁

The correct answer is C.

Yes, I made this word up.

Yes, I found a beautiful way to sum up who I am AND who my ideal client is.

She's ambitious.
She's capable.
She gets things done—and then usually does a little extra.

She might love her career.
She might be burned out.
She might love her career AND be burned out.

She's a Corporatette.

And around here, we're helping her lose the burnout, keep the paycheck, and build a life she's excited to clock out for.

Are you a Corporatette? Say hello below—and send this to one of your corporate girls.

Let's make this the new "it" word on Instagram

1. Write down what you want to be called besides your job title
👉🏻Author. Painter. Dancer. Entrepreneur. Runner. Volunteer. Dog rescuer. Your LinkedIn headline is not your entire identity.

2. Let one work problem stay someone else’s problem.
👉🏻 You do not need to emotionally adopt every orphaned task.

3. Schedule something you’re excited about BEFORE you schedule more work.
👉🏻 Your joy deserves calendar space too.

4. Use some of your best brainpower on YOUR future.
👉🏻 Not all of your creativity, ambition and energy should belong to the company paying you.

5. Do one thing badly on purpose.
👉🏻 Start the painting. Write the ugly first page. Take the beginner class.
Perfectionism has stolen enough of your time.

6. Stop trying to be the easiest employee to inconvenience.
👉🏻 Always available is not the same thing as valuable.

7. Hire a coach, mentor or professional who will actually hold you accountable to changing your life.
👉🏻 Because “I know what I need to do” and actually doing it are two very different things.

BONUS🌟
👉🏻Ask yourself one slightly uncomfortable question:
If my job disappeared tomorrow… what would still make me interesting?

📎Save this and look at it every Monday 📎 by @elisha.meek

TODAY, SUNDAY
Put one (non-work) thing you’re excited about on this week’s calendar.
Your life deserves a reservation, too.

MONDAY
Give yourself 10 minutes in front of the computer before opening work email.
Drink your coffee before drinking the corporate chaos.

TUESDAY
Take a FULL lunch break away from your desk.
Your sandwich deserves better than a spreadsheet.

WEDNESDAY
Spend 10 minutes on a hobby or that book you want to write.
Messy progress counts. Thinking about it forever doesn’t.

THURSDAY
Pause before saying yes to one extra request.
Ask: “Do I actually have room for this?”

FRIDAY
Before logging off, write down Monday’s top three priorities.
Give your brain somewhere to leave work for the weekend.

SATURDAY
Do one thing purely because you enjoy it.
No productivity points required.

NEXT SUNDAY
Ask: “What do I want more of in my life?”
Schedule one small step toward it.

📣Save this.

Your Sunday brain will forget by Monday. by @elisha.meek
