These moments suspended, new tales to be passed through time. 🧳

Whittling down these photos to one post was painful, if I could reasonably shared all 200, I would.

These were taken in the Highlands (I’d go back in a heartbeat) at @aimeelaoisephotography heart achingly beautiful workshop capturing @saorsastudio.co and her sweet family. taken in Glencoe, Highland, Scotland by @elisha.pickles

This session was part of a full mentoring session I did in Scotland. The session was planned around the photographer’s focus on the outdoors, whimsy and storytelling 📚

Mentoring review;
‘Elisha is not only an exceptional artist, but also a very warm, kind and generous person. She creates a gentle, welcoming environment where learning feels rich, inspiring and collaborative…it brought clarity to my artistic direction, strengthened my branding and gave me the confidence to pursue the work and goals I truly want to create.’ - N. Russer

Remote mentoring review;
‘You really went above and beyond (and so much of your valuable time!) to help me curate a clear vision for my work, I honestly can’t thank you enough. I feel like the day and our zoom call have set me on an exciting new path and I love it!’ - H. Mildmay taken in Scotland, United Kingdom by @elisha.pickles

When a family lets you in so openly & you end up with a 350 photo gallery…

I’m often asked how many photos are usually in a gallery for my long-form sessions (mostly by the clients that are also photographers!).

I have a minimum that I promise for every session of 150 photos (that even if your toddler is having a hard day or we had to last minute change the location and had to wing it, you will get 150 storied moments).

However, the galleries where I really can’t choose and that end up being more robust, these sessions usually have this in common;

*We collaborated on a feeling and loose plan.
*There was a beautiful mix of ‘doing’ and ‘being’.
*There was trust
*The clients focused on the beauty and connection in the moment
*There was movement and several spaces/locations/activities that we moved through.

A long-form storytelling session is a beautiful collaboration, your essence through my artist’s eyes. I’m SO grateful for the trust and the opportunity to craft your visual legacy. 🎞️

✨The final scene of this couple’s session ✨
Each of my couple’s sessions follows a story-like structure, something that feels like a beginning, a middle and an end.

It isn’t scripted or tightly controlled. Together with the couple ahead of the session, we craft something that makes sense for them. And with that structure we can let it play out. A fluid dance of creative direction and documentary (how much of each depends on the session!).

I would love to create cinematic feeling couple’s sessions with you at my workshop next month 🤍 We’ll be shooting two storied concepts, each which its own scenes (which could be shared as separate stories) as well as plenty of education and insta/website insight.

The workshop will be on Sunday 7th September in South Devon, DM to book 🎞️

Going through old work was very revealing!
The biggest things I learned were from last year were…

* Taking a ‘good’ photo feels good but telling a story feels better.
* Yes, beautiful natural light pouring in is incredible (and still the goal for most shoots) but so many types of light can be made pretty. 💡
* Shoot in Kelvin. (Life saver!).
* Creating from the place of passion and excitement is always going to produce better work. I had to talk myself away from what I thought I ‘should’ be doing.
* As a visual artist, time ‘imagining’, and taking in visual beauty and inspiration is absolutely essential. Like, it needs to be in the diary!

What’s something you’ve learnt this year (personal or business!)? ♥️ taken in Manchester, United Kingdom by @elisha.pickles

My favourite part of this day 🚂

My family sessions are unposed and unhurried, we spend the time in a way that makes sense for you.

I’ll tag along, chatting with babies when they come to see me, swapping motherhood stories and taking plenty of quiet steps back to let you just ‘be’, it’s low pressure and just like spending the afternoon with a friend (I’ve heard that more than once! 🥹🥰).

Sound on for love letters of their next chapter… 📖✉️

I hope they can feel the substance of this work, how brimming with ‘them’ it feels.
That’s my biggest hope, to create work that tells stories of life and love that really holds.
That importance can be found in it decades later, that it endures.

That’s what I want for all of my sessions. It’s why I’ve slowed them down, so I can pour more in. For you, for your loved ones, for loved ones you haven’t even met yet.

This was a session I planned and styled for a shoot-along session with @beccaselbiephotography
to explore heartfelt intimate couples sessions together. 🤍

How we planned this long-form session 🎞️

The vibe for the first location; 🪕🌲
I got to know more about the family through voice notes and photos, we decided to include Baker’s music and the family’s days out in nature.

I found this boathouse on a loch which felt like the perfect vintage vibe to accompany the banjo playing, and gave us a beautiful space for the girls to just *be*. The moodboard had a quieter explorative feel.

The vibe for the second location; 🏹 🌧️
Baker had mentioned these ruins as being on his wish list of places to visit.

It was forecast to rain by the time we would get there so the moodboard was full of movement and play to set the tone. If we’re shooting in the rain then the best thing to do is to embrace it and have fun-and that they did!

I’ve never really shared any process before, do you like hearing about the little snippets of inspiration behind a session? Should I share this kind of thing more often? taken in Cairngorms National Park by @elisha.pickles
