Introducing John Solomon Rider, born Friday 2/16/24. All praise and glory to Christ our King for the gift of this new life!

During an early sonogram, John’s two precious little feet showed up perfectly in frame at the same time—a rare occurrence according to our doctor. Tears rolled as God immediately brought to mind the words of Isaiah:

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!””
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭52‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

May more come to know the God who reigns because that same God made you, my son.

Side note: so far Aletheia’s only qualm with her brother is that he does not wave back at her. 😅 by @elizabetharider

Our little family is growing, Aaron is practicing his dad jokes, and all things pumpkin are about to be even sweeter. Baby Girl Rider is coming in October!

“The Lord has done done great things for us, and we are filled with joy…Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” Psalm 126:3,5

A few weeks before we found out we were expecting, I happened to read this Psalm. I knew in my heart then that our time of waiting, praying and grieving prior loss was almost over. May this little girl’s life be a testament to all that God is real, he hears our prayers and we can trust him.

Also, Peppers would like to know why “baby girl” seems to no longer refer to her. by @elizabetharider

My sister’s name means “grace,” and it fits. Hannah brings God’s grace everywhere she goes, daily stepping into the real parts of life (whether that’s a student’s fear or a sister’s anxiety) and reminding people of the hope we have in Jesus. She is a woman of strength, selflessness and incredible faith. I am so blessed to be your sister @galli__hannah! Happy happy birthday ❤️ by @elizabetharider

When God asks you to do something, don’t expect it to be easy. Expect to doubt and cry, sometimes a lot. *But do expect it to be good.*

This year has been marked largely by our family’s transition into law enforcement. Summed up shortly, it would be this:

“He has shown you O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and love mercy and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

I’ve learned this year that justice, mercy and humility go together for a reason. Walking humbly with God means sometimes going places you would not have picked to go. Justice takes sacrifice, and we cannot give mercy until we know with humility what it is to *need* mercy.

Wherever the Lord leads next, I know that Christ is in me and he is my hope. Thanks to everyone for all the birthday love, and I pray you know this hope too! (PS: Isn’t the new Officer Rider a stud??) by @elizabetharider

Snapshots from today’s rainy Sabbath. // I think God waters our souls for the same reasons he waters the ground. To force slowness, fill in the cracks and help better things grow. Thankful for that kind of rain today.

Aaron recently told me, “being strong is just being there...again and again.” Over the last 29 weeks, I have watched him be exactly that as he persevered through police academy with a dignity and humility explained only by the presence of Christ. He showed up again and again, choosing to push forward even when everything else told him not to.

To know Aaron is to know a man after God’s own heart. He is gentle and wise and self sacrificing. And to be his wife? It’s the greatest pride I’ve ever known. Congratulations, Officer Rider. I love you deeply. To God be all the glory for this incredible victory he has given. taken in Plano Event Center by @elizabetharider

I was struck this Easter weekend by how deeply personal Christ’s crucifixion was. As he shared a quiet dinner with his disciples before all chaos broke lose, he looked each of them in the eyes and knew that they would run in cowardice. He knew the story of every Roman soldier who threw their whips against his back. He knew the names of their children, their deepest fears, their strongest desires…and as they ruthlessly pounded nails into his hands, he prayed for them because he loved them. A body voluntarily broken.

He knows my story too. When I throw my doubts against his face and spiral into senseless insecure anxiety, his love is still there. There are no limits. It’s because of his death that I live. Hallelujah for the cross.

If I waited for Jesus the way I’m waiting for this snow, I think my life would look different. Calling loved ones to make sure they're ready. Giddy with anticipation, like a smile you physically can't hide. Singularly focused (seriously who has time to get out of pajamas when it could snow tonight??).
Lord, forgive my distracted heart. The true question should be: who has time for worry, fear, anxiety, frustration or the cell phone in my hand when the King of Kings and Prince of Peace is coming back to redeem and restore that which is his own? by @elizabetharider

Happy Anniversary (one day late because too busy celebrating) to the love of my life. You care for me, challenge me and push me closer to Jesus every day. When I am anxious, you calm me down. When I am afraid, you pray through my tears. And, thanks to you, I've eaten more bacon in the last year than in my whole life combined. I love you forever. May we hold each other closely, carry the things of this world loosely and run bravely after Christ in this next year of marriage. To God be all the glory.

There’s a song in the movie White Christmas that my sister and I know backwards and forwards. One line goes, “Those who’ve seen us know that not a thing could come between us.”

Not even Covid.

Celebrating my sister and her man from the parking lot of their wedding was certainly not how we had planned it. We cried big, heartbroken tears this week after “the rona” hit Aaron and I five days before the wedding.

Life is hard, and sometimes it flat out stinks. But God isn’t scared of hard things, and he doesn’t let them stop him. He still moves, there is still joy and we still have reason to give thanks. Yesterday’s celebration was a gift, and we will never forget it.

Han and Sean, we love you so much and are overjoyed for your marriage! Here’s to forever.

PS: Thank you to everyone who prayed for our family this week. We felt so loved! by @elizabetharider
