Do it while you can ❤️‍🔥

It’s been nearly a year since I went down the road to ride my bike from the West to East coast of Australia.

The bike racer in me had this goal to see how quickly I could make it across on my own, but I knew my soul needed space to untangle itself more than anything.

I’m still so grateful for the time I gave myself to see and experience the width of this country, despite probably never wanting to ride along a freeway next to a truck again. 🙂‍↔️

It’s not often the underbite, teeth-grit comes out, but it showed up a few times for me last week at @4islandsmtb !

It’s hard to fully articulate what an experience this was, and I’m so grateful to @hollyharris_7. I’ve said it before, but racing halfway around the world is never easy!

Five days of rocky coastlines, brutally steep climbs, magical forests. Laced with cancelled flights, jet lag, some very niche mechanicals & hustling like a couple of true Aussie battlers. Sneaking onto the podium on the fourth stage was so special, and the memories of racing across these magical islands was worth the effort to get there.

@hollyharris_7 - thanks for doing the heavy lifting (both on and off the bike 😮‍💨), it was so special to take this on with you. I’m sure our 16 year old selves would be stoked to know where bikes have taken us.

Also thankful to
@maap.cc for the kits
@sram_australia for the spares
@specialized_au for the rocket ship and Croatian-rock-proof tyres
@skratchlabsaustralia for all the carbs
@quocshoes for my dancing shoes

I had two main goals for 2026: start my architecture registration process and have a good crack at the XCM National title. Classically, both the exam and race fell in the same week 😺

Even with the goalposts standing right in front of you, the motivation isn’t always there, and I really had to find a new way to approach these goals amongst the work-life juggle. @andrewlespy , who is a true Canadian golden retriever of a human and loves a challenge, took over my training program a few months ago. It felt like we took it back about sixteen steps, took a big sidestep, and slowly started building again with quality over quantity, and a lot of positive reinforcement 🥹.

I’m content with second. I felt like I did my best with where I’m at, my mind was focused, and I’m really proud of the consistency and joy I’ve been able to find in riding my bike over the last few months.

Three mega laps of Stromlo, a minute or so short of the title, and surrounded by friends and family who shared this goal with me. XC is such a niche and gruelling sport, but there’s a reason we all seem to keep coming back to it. There’s just so much fun to be had!

Motivation, joy, meaning. Things I constantly seem to overthink. I’m finally starting to learn that sometimes you just have to focus on the reasons why you are prepared, rather than count the reasons you mightn’t be.

Pretty stoked with my new Crux 5 // SRAM Red XPLR build.

I’ve been lucky to ride a Crux for the last few years, and I genuinely laughed the first time I rolled out on this thing. It’s fast.

There are a few things I’ve changed from previous builds that I’m excited about:
• Power EVO with mirror saddle. I’ve never really publicly shared my saddle struggles, but I took a fairly drastic pivot and decided to try something completely new. While only a few rides in, I’m so so glad I did.
• I’m a little late to the Roval integrated cockpit party, but I now understand why everyone is so obsessed. No more dropped bars, and quietly stoked to never have to scrub the intersection between stem and bars again.
• And then there’s SRAM Red XPLR. I’ve been running a 40T chainring, which works really well for the steep AF terrain I live around.
• Roval Terra Aero wheels launched a few months ago, but they truly feel bloody quick.

In summary; the new Crux 5 does feel different from previous iterations. It just feels like a proper race machine.

First proper outing: @nannupgravel2026 in a months time 💚

Thanks @specialized_au , @sram_australia & @rileymatthews for the new bike 📷 taken in Melbourne, Australia by @ella.bloor

I’ve been in such a grind-state these last few months. Finally churning through my architecture registration, navigating the house-buying process, falling in love with training all over again, and building towards pinning a couple of numbers on soon.

Winter has been filled with fewer moments in the camera roll and more time spent laying foundations. It’s been exhaustingly satisfying having that magnetic pull of goals on the horizon & slowly chipping away at them.

Happy to feel the longer days again, and quietly very excited about what’s to come. 🤍 taken in Christmas Hills, Victoria by @ella.bloor

Yassssssssssss! 🥳 🎉 🍾

We designed this year’s ultimate Australian home of the future 😎

The @designmattersnational True Zero Carbon Challenge is a rigorous design competition that asks for solutions that balance and optimise across:
1. Budget (and brief)
2. Energy efficiency
3. Embodied carbon footprint

👉 Hint: it’s easy to design for TWO of those things but hard to optimise across all three!

With our teammates, @powerhausengineering and assisted by @canopydesignstudio we spent months workshopping and testing across all three of these things to find the ultimate home for the future

We also looked at:
Durability/maintenance
Recyclability
Accessibility
Flexible design (multigenerational use)
Low VOC (toxicity) interiors
Buildability (nothing exotic)
Likeability (nothing wierd)
Climate resilient (ready for storms, bushfire, heatwaves)

The awards night last night and we took out the NSW award… and then, the National Prize. 😱

Thank you @ella.bloor for representing! 🙌

Keep an eye out 👀 because we’ll be sharing all of our work for educational purposes! 🔥

🙏 Thank you to the tireless team and sponsors who make this project happen. @weathertexaus @positivefootprints

Belated snaps from a Tassie winter solstice 🌪️

I made the call to sit on the sidelines of @thedevilscardigan this year after returning from Croatia. I came back with a bit of a glute/hammy/hip niggle, was slammed with work, and I’m finally getting old and wise enough to know when to say no.

It’s still genuinely my favourite events and places to visit, so it was nice to make the trip, cheer on @special_fraser & friends, and spend some time riding nothing but new roads and trails on my epic.

NEW DATES!!

A winter lurgy (paired with a pretty ordinary forecast) has meant I’ve had to make the call to postpone this weekend’s gravel overnighter to Warburton.

It’s always a bit disappointing changing plans, but I’m looking forward to getting everyone together in a couple of weeks instead.

@maap.cc RWoC initiative is now in its third year, and I’ve loved watching the rides, events and little adventures that have grown from it around the world.

For me, the overnighters I’ve hosted over the last couple of years have become something I really look forward to. They’ve grown new friendships, created some great memories and I’ve loved sharing a good meal with everyone in the evening. You don’t get that on your average group ride.

How does the overnighter work?

We’ll meet at @maap.lab.melbourne on Saturday morning for a 7:30am departure. An off-road bike is preferable. From there we’ll make our way towards Warburton, regrouping at the top of the key climbs and stopping for a bakery lunch or two along the way.

Accommodation is up to you. Last year, quite a few of us stayed at @thealpinehotelwarburton and I’d happily recommend it, but there are plenty of other options in town, including camping if that’s more your style. We’ll all meet for dinner on Saturday night before rolling out on Sunday for the ride home.

If you’ve been thinking about joining an overnighter, I’d love to have you along and please don’t reach out if you have any questions 💜
