My show POWER PLAY will be opening September 28th in the Experimental Gallery at Tjaden Hall. Please join me for the opening reception on Thursday October 1st 5:30PM-7:30PM!

POWER PLAY explores the nuances of women’s sport and athletics through an engagement with playfulness, progress, exploitation, and failure, in both content and process. The exhibition unsettles narratives about women’s sports, including the notion of advancement in professional athletics even as sports organizations fail to protect women, particularly Black women, from gendered and racialized harm. Using etching, collagraph, screenprint, and fabric-based processes, POWER PLAY examines the beauty and the commodification of athletic bodies and probes the complexities of this world through pattern, texture, clothing, and objects as the work connects material experimentation to the physical act of playing. taken in Olive Tjaden Hall by @ella.kirlew

5 days of shaping plates, new etching and inking techniques, mezzotint, learning, storytelling, and printmaking! Can’t imagine a better way to end my summer.

We are so happy to announce the opening of our show, Again and Again, in the Tjaden Experimental Gallery next week. Join us on March 4th for our opening reception to celebrate!!⭐⭐⭐

Again and Again explores patterns and cycles through multiple themes including heritage, the environment, and belonging. Ami Maria Hernandez, Ella Anjali Kirlew, and Rania Amalia Shah (All B.F.A. ‘27) work across different mediums and processes to create, question, and critique visual and historical repetitions. The artists consider their own experiences within broader systems of power and question how to navigate and disrupt cycles that often seem larger than life. by @ella.kirlew

Cornell University born from the Morrill-Land Act goes beyond a history of land dispossession in the Cayuga Lake region. The early years of the academic institution, filled with economic turmoils, led to co-founder Ezra Cornell to speculate with White Pine lands in Wisconsin.

This project is the collaboration between @ellassketchbooks and @hendrik.manuels exploring two gazes into a a same building: Morrill Hall. The first building of the university, made with the locally quarried blue Ithaca sandstone, embodies the intersection of all these troubled histories: by name, materially, and how it was financed. taken in Morrill Hall by @ella.kirlew
