Look what I found hidden in the attic - my very own badges from the late 1970s and into the ‘80s. I wore them with pride at rallies, demos and at home to piss mum and dad off! What’s your favourite? taken in Sydney, Australia by @ella_dreyfus

What a privilege to attend the world premiere of CANCELLED at the program launch of the Jewish International Film Festival in Sydney. Danny Ben-Moshe has made a searing documentary, drilling down into the lives of four Jewish Australian artists whose professional and personal lives are severely impacted and impaired by viscous anti-Jewish hatred over the last three years. The film will screen at JIFF next month and I urge you to see it. It’s been ignored, rejected and cancelled by the main gatekeepers of Australian culture. @jiff_oz @ritz_cinema @danny_benmoshe @nina_sanadze @joshuadabelstein @deborahconway @rollernicki taken in Randwick Ritz Cinemas by @ella_dreyfus

This was simply the best conference I’ve been to in years! The National Council of Jewish Women presented a stellar lineup of women - activists, academics, government and institutional leaders, students, community workers, writers, musicians, educators, councillors, researchers etc. You could not have asked for a higher caliber of women. Thank you to NCJWA President Lynda Ben-Menashe and the Council’s executives, committees, volunteers, and the caterers of course! The audience of over 200 packed the hall and hung off every word from every speaker. What an inspiring and challenging time we had together. @ncjwa @ncjwansw @ncjwavictoria #kolhakavod taken in Sydney, Australia by @ella_dreyfus

Congratulations to the winners of the Australian Jewish Writers Awards. A fabulous night to launch the Festival of the Spoken Word 2-30 August, created by the Shalom Collective. The awards' ceremonies were followed by a terrific discussion led by Michaela Kalowski with authors Ayelet Tsabari and Yishay Ishi Ron I bought all their books immediately! And it was such a joy to meet my cousins, the three Caplan brothers, and their lovely partners! @michaelakalowski @yishayishiron @shalomcollective_au @ayuli1 #australianjewishwritersawards #festivalofthespokenword @ziggyenoch @hipjourneymama @joannefedlermedia @leekofman @leah_kam @kerrisackville @jessica.chapnick taken in Sydney, Australia by @ella_dreyfus

I’m heading off on long service leave and taking a break from my full time role as Head of Public Programs at the National Art School. The multi-talented artist and administrator Laura McDougall will take over the reins and ensure our terrific short courses are maintained and managed beautifully. She’ll be joined by Shannon Smith and I trust they’ll do a brilliant job working together. I’m off to immerse myself in major art projects and other fun stuff! @nas_au @laurajsuttonartist taken in National Art School by @ella_dreyfus

I was privileged to met Year 10 and 11 students from two German high schools this month. First they watched my documentary film Dreyfus Drei, then discussed it with their teachers, followed by a live online Q&A with me for 45 minutes. Over the last four years of annual screenings in German schools and universities, and meeting students, I’ve noticed a decline in their interest in engaging with me and the subject of Jewish identity, the Holocaust and family history. Previously they showed genuine curiosity, excitement and joy in meeting an Australian artist. Nowadays there are less inquiring questions, reductions in depth of comments, more silences, and growing signs of discomfort. Sadly I had to deter one question displaying ignorance and bigotry. Things have changed. Despite this, I enjoyed answering with as much detail as possible about my father’s history as a Kindertransport refugee and his difficulties in talking to me about his experiences as a Jewish child escaping Nazi Germany. I answered some good questions about my art installations in the streets of Berlin, and some very sensitive questions about my relationship with my father and uncle. My advocates in Bad Mergentheim are determined to continue screening Dreyfus Drei and hosting these educational sessions and so am I. taken in Stuttgart, Germany by @ella_dreyfus

Happiest family day on Axel’s PhD graduation in Brisbane, for his beloved partner Maite, devoted grandfather Steven, best friend Lewis, and proud as punch parents David and Ella. Sister Fee was there in spirit and adores him as much as we do! #graduationday @uniofqld #doctorofphilosophy @leidimaite #socialidentityandgroupsnetwork @socialidentityandgroupsnetworks taken in The University of Queensland by @ella_dreyfus

I had an awesome afternoon visiting three Sydney galleries. Started at Kevin McKay’s exhibition of delightful urban landscape paintings at Flinders Street Gallery in Darlinghurst. Including a smaller exhibition of beautiful paintings by Thanh Tam Cao. Then onto Steven Isaac Durban’s fascinating exhibition Between the Waters at Articulate Project Space, Leichhardt; A performative and participatory project. Then over to Syrup in Marrickville for Belem Lett’s show ‘for your eyes only’. A mixture of large colorful paintings and sculptural works filled the space. Loved the whole experience of seeing three distinctive and highly accomplished bodies of artworks today. @articulateprojectspace @syrup.contemporary @flindersstgallery @kevinmckayart @belem_lett @steve_durbach #sydneyartgalleries taken in Sydney, Australia by @ella_dreyfus
