Swear I’ll get back to my paintings just have to mull over everything I saw this summer.

Mauritshuis. Located in Den Haag, Netherlands. Got to take my time observing the work and moving through a prime example of Dutch Classicist architecture. The only reason this isn’t a 10 is because I was sweating balls.

Rijksmuseum. One of my favorites. A massive, castle-like space holding pieces from Rembrandt to Dumas. Easy 10. Located in Amsterdam, we started here before walking over to the Van Gogh Museum. Rembrandt is the hero of the Netherlands.

Van Gogh Museum. Multiple floors full of his work housed in a unique structure. I was lucky enough to attend while the ‘Choosing Vincent’ exhibition was happening, shedding light on the role that his family played in supporting his work. Pretty crowded and difficult to get a close look.

Magritte Museum. Very pleasant visit at Magritte in Brussels, Belgium. I was glad I got the headphones to listen to the background on certain paintings. Was able to move through at my own pace.

The Louvre. Enormous. Incredible. Overwhelming. There was so much to see I didn’t know where to begin. I wish I would’ve planned it out a bit better instead of speed running it to see as much as I could.

Vatican Museums. Google maps wasn’t my friend when trying to find the entrance, and it was the last leg of our trip so we were exhausted. The layout was like a labyrinth and I had no golden string. We were herded like cattle into the Sistine Chapel, but it was worth it. by @elladipoldart

Parisian ambience

Five flights of stairs up to the room of our hostel, pain au chocolat for breakfast, the grandeur of the Louvre, the absurdity surrounding the Mona Lisa, finding sanctuary from the heat in the Notre Dame, hopping the gate for a fluorescent metro ride into the night. Hang out until the end for a wee painting update

My goal has always been to have my own studio space that I can lock myself in and emerge hours later. However, a cutie day in Columbus and a post from @thegreatwomenartists has me thinking otherwise.

While I still need a quiet place to think and paint, I was reminded again of how much my surroundings inform my approach to what I create, even while searching for escape. Lois Dodd is known for painting the view outside her window—an act that I interpret as finding beauty in the mundane—but I don’t think Dodd finds it mundane at all. For her, the view is always changing, leading to something new.

I realized how lucky I am to experience this old, dumpy college house and the energy we imbued it with. Like breathing fresh air into a roach infested cathedral of bones (I only spotted a couple roaches). I may not experience anything quite like this again. I don’t need a blank white studio, I need funny inspiring complicated loving sad loud reserved strong delicate forever changing people and places xoxoxo

Thanks for reading my rant

Vibes are up in here

This is the first ceramic shoe I made and I had a feeling I miscalculated for shrinkage. I decided to make a hole through the sole and heel to give it some semblance of function if it didn’t fit my foot. Because why would I make a ceramic shoe that I couldn’t put on my foot. I was correct, it shrunk and I would’ve had to slice off my big toe to fit into the ceramic slipper, but the hole now serves as the perfect incense holder. Happy accidents

Also just saw the trailer for Frankenstein and am determined to read Mary Shelley’s novel in this space before I move out đŸ•șđŸ»
