Another year without the full story. Let’s remember Tlatelolco 1968

Obviously it’s not a 1:1 comparison but it’s still important to look back at what happened during the Pinochet regime in Chile using DINA and compare it to what’s happening in today’s America with ICE, immigrants and detention centers.

VIVOS SE LOS LLEVARON. VIVOS LOS QUEREMOS!!

En un día tal como hoy: 12 years ago students traveled to Iguala to commandeer commercial buses, a common and traditionally tolerated practice, intending to use them to travel to a protest in Mexico City for the anniversary of Tlatelcolco on October 2.

This year was different. Local police from Iguala and Cocula, working in collusion with the Guerreros Unidos drug cartel and backed by other security forces, violently intercepted and attacked the students.

Instead of getting to CDMX Six people were killed, dozens were wounded, and 43 students were taken away, last seen loaded onto police trucks.

And to this day we still don’t know their whereabouts.

One of the central orchestrators of the event is Tomas Zeron de Lucio and he fled to Israle in 2020 to avoid persecution.

Currently Wilber is in critical condition and is being denied counsel and his wife is also unable to see him. He was just trying to work. He was just trying to make a couple dollars delivering food.

No one should be afraid to live their lives! No one should fear kidnapping and deportation if they’re “doing it the right way” or even if they’re doing it any way possible. The immigration system is broken and does not work. And now they’re using state sanctioned violence to go after members of MY COMMUNITY!

I don’t leave my house without my passport. I know other friends who don’t leave their homes for fun because they’re afraid. Places where lots of Latinos would hang out are now empty. Just work and home. This is not fair. Our people just want to live. We just want to be safe and raise our families. This has to end.

📍Just a gentle reminder: this space is all about sharing our stories, keeping our history alive, and educational purposes only.

We are here to uplift our community, which means we strictly stand against violence, hate, or anything that compromises our safety.

Let’s keep this a welcoming place for everyone. That being said any mean comments will be erased. taken in Austin, Texas by @ellaequeue
