I’m easing into the morning with a warm latte, an open window, and Beauty School Dropout on the speaker as I tackle some how-to content and (gasp) book three. 📖

Those who are waiting for the physical copies of Chivalry’s Code, I promise it won’t be much longer. Beta readers have their copies, and I’m currently ordering the second round of proofs for the final versions. We had a few small snafus with the cover, but it should be an easy fix, so hang tight. I promise it won’t be much longer! 🤞🏼

It is finished.

Chivalry’s Code is officially out. This baby came down to the wire. We wrestled, fought, cried, and threw punches. But it’s done, and I can confidently say it’s better than the original.

Softback and hardcover will be available in the next few weeks. After that, things may be fairly quiet on my end. The third book will come—don’t worry about that. But I need a break. This year and this novel have taken a lot out of me. So have the things that inspired how I handled Jaspur’s struggle.

The print editions will include a dedication at the front that highlights some of the reasons why this story was so hard to write. But I think—I hope—that this book isn’t just a time capsule of my own forays with life. I hope it resonates with readers and reminds them that they’re not alone. The world is messy. Life often pans out in ways we didn’t expect. It can feel unjust, especially when we look out the window and see our antagonists thriving while we do all the right things, only to struggle and slip in the mud.

We often lose things in the muck. Security. People. Ourselves. But our lost seasons don’t have to be permanent seasons. At the end of the day, that’s what this book is about.

It’s a story of perseverance and grief and learning how to not just exist in a world that doesn’t play by the rules, but live. Live unapologetically and fully. Don’t wait for the world to right itself.

Do it now, in the mud, and let whatever comes, come.

Hey friends — quick update. If you’re on my mailing list, you’re probably already aware that I’ve been dealing with some health challenges this year. It’s nothing to panic about, but it has forced me to slow down and heavily reduce my screen time. Because of that, Chivalry’s Code is taking a little longer than I hoped.

The Kindle preorder has been pushed out 30 days, to September 13.

The print release has shifted to TBD for now, with the aim of having it available before Christmas.

I know this is disappointing for some of you. Trust me, it’s disappointing for me, too. This is the first time in my writing career that I’ve ever missed a deadline. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but know that I’m still working diligently — just at a pace I can handle right now.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and for sticking with me and this book series.

I hope y’all are having a great Friday. 💙

Eighteen-year-old Levee Tensley is just another citizen of Nevaharday until her uncanny talent with horses earns her an apprenticeship under Arelee, the Royal Horsemistress responsible for breeding and training the kingdom’s war mounts. It is a golden opportunity that may finally give her a chance to fit in and feel normal for once. The only kink in that plan is that her talent isn’t normal.

Levee was born among one of the rahee’s nomadic clans, known as the kaises. She traveled with her family and performed equine acrobatics until an unprovoked attack on her caravan left her orphaned at the age of nine. She barely managed to escape the slaughter on the back of her pony, Melee. Eventually, she ended up at Milo Kasateno‘s door, and he and his mother took her in. From then on, she lived in Nevaharday as one of its citizens.

But it never felt like home. Nevaharday’s disdain for the kaises made it difficult for her to form any real connections beyond Milo and his mother. When she became an apprentice and moved onto the castle’s grounds, she felt even more pressure to keep her origins under wraps.

Still, she fights for her place among them and is rewarded when she finds that not every rahee disdained her kind. To her surprise, the prince is one of them. After he realizes her attempts to mask her origins weren’t out of deception but rather fear, the two form an unexpected friendship. That bond only grows as an ominous threat targets them both, thrusting them into an adventure neither of them asked for, yet would change their lives completely.

Milo Kasateno was born on the poorer side of Sarrokye as the son of a sailor and a seamstress. He loved the harbor that skirted the southern city and never thought he’d leave its docks and surrounding shoreline, but that all changed one ill-fated day when his father’s ship never returned to port.

Brokenhearted, Milo’s mother migrated with him to Nevaharday where they started over from scratch. Milo learned the farming trade, and although the people there were prejudiced against his dark skin, thick accent, and Sarrokian roots, the transition felt worth it when an orphaned kaisi named Levee Tensley arrived on their doorstep. She became a steady source of joy in his life as she integrated into their family.

That joy transforms into something greater as Milo and Levee grow older. At first, Levee reciprocates those feelings, and Milo thinks that their lives are finally starting to go somewhere. But those emotions end up adding an unexpected layer of complexity to both of their lives when circumstances in Nevaharday start to change.
