A round up of the weird and wonderful things we’ve found elsewhere this week… @coffeeboy.off showing why people travel from all over for their coffee. cat-bounce.com is a website concept that makes no sense and yet is exactly what you need to break up your day. This beautiful pizza oven was spotted working hard at Crust Bros in Waterloo. An Anthony Bourdain biopic that isn’t what you’d expect. It’s a summer hang with great looking food and even greater seventies haircuts. The annual Gravy Wrestling Championships took place in Lancashire with more clotheslines and body slams than you could throw a Sunday roast at. A logo we’ve definitely never seen before 👀… spotted by a customer in Buenos Aires. I picked up this Plum and Almond Tart from @thebunheadbakery in Herne Hill and subsequently died and went to heaven. A nice reminder that getting up early isn’t always the worst thing in the world. Batman II has been turning Bank into snowy Gotham with passersby getting a sneak peak at the Dark Knight in action. by @elsewhere_coffee

Our cafés lately… The final bit of sunshine of the year? Alice preps a pour over in our Brew Lab. Some silky smooth coffee art moves. Maurice mans the bar at Honor Oak A v tasty flat white… Polly wows with her 10/10 cup stacking skills (almost). The sunshine helps out with some shadow marketing. No fancy equipment or barista training needed. Just coffee and a good time! First, grab 2-4 different coffees. The more contrast between them, the easier it is to taste the differences. You’ll need: • Coffee (duh) • A grinder (if possible) or fairly coarsely pre-ground coffee • A few glasses or bowls (the same volume) • Hot water • A spoon (the deeper the better) • A timer (your phone will do) That’s it. Grind each coffee medium-coarse and add the exact same amount to each cup or bowl (usually around 11g for 200ml bowl) If your setup doesn’t allow you to be precise, don’t stress! The goal here is comparison. Pour hot water (30 seconds off the boil works), directly onto the grounds in each bowl. Leave for 4 minutes. A crust will then form on the surface. After 4 minutes, use a spoon to gently break the crust, pushing across from one side to the other. Get your nose in nice and close. Take a moment to smell the aroma released, it’s one of the best parts. Skim away any remaining grounds/crust off the top and discard them. Wait until around 12-15 mins, letting the coffees cool slightly, then taste! Slurp if you can, it helps spread the coffee across your palate. Ask yourself: • Which coffee is sweetest? • Which has the most acidity? • Which would you drink every day? You don’t need tasting notes or fancy terminology. A great starting point is simply paying attention to what’s in your cup! Save this to try it yourself. by @elsewhere_coffee

Here’s some weird and wonderful things we’ve found elsewhere this week: Ocearch.org is a fascinating website that allows you to track sharks and sea turtles as they make their way around the ocean. A collection of ‘kissable’ Harry Styles posters were spotted around London. With realistic lips and facial hair. Yum. We watched ‘The Invite’ - a hilarious Olivia Wilde film about a struggling marriage and the mysterious couple that lives upstairs. Remember these slippers? Potentially the comfiest pair I’ve ever owned. The dinosaurs around the corner from us in Crystal Palace have been refurbished to their former, weird glory. They are so old that many scientific discoveries have been made since their creation, leaving them looking a little strange today. by @elsewhere_coffee
