This music has survived for centuries. Not because it was popular, but because someone chose to keep playing it…

Zapateado is the drum. Colonizers said no drums, so enslaved Africanos and indigenous people of Mexico took the drums to the feet.

Zapateado kept the African polyrhythms alive.

happy birthday to the prettiest brown girl, @keli_rosa

my hope one day is that the people in Keli’s life, her community, friends and family, I hope you all understand that when shows up for someone either by serving her community, her friends or showing up to places of work or gatherings and reunions, that most likely she made a huge effort to show up for you. I also hope everyone comes to understand that Keli has had to show up to places where she is misunderstood, not valued and she STILL shows up. In these past few years ive come to witness major shifts in her life, huge accomplishments and major disappointments. With all this I hope you, you who is reading this if you are in Keli’s life, she is worth fighting for.
Keli is deserving of love
Keli is deserving of peace
Keli is deserving of good things to happen to her
Keli is worth fighting for
Keli is worth for you to go out of your way for her
Keli is worth every reel every picture where she is acknowledged
Keli is worth of recognition for her efforts
Keli is worth remembering her
Keli is worth putting differences aside and come through for her because most likely she has done the same for others
Keli is worth loving and traveling to places to support her on her performances or events that are important to her
Keli is worth being understood
Keli is worth of being acknowledged and celebrated on her special day despite any disagreements, any differences because life is too short to not let this woman she is worth it, she is magia y sabiduría.
I think you get the point.
Regardless of what chapter you are in your life, regardless of where life takes you, don’t you dare forget Keli, because behind closed doors, Keli Rosita had to stay quiet for the sake of others and their peace. For the sake of everyone’s happiness, except her own. She is that girl. Also, every year someone has to fuck it up for her bday, either they forgot something or something, this year is my turn because these are recycled videos from last year but I hope you know keli i love you despite the different chapters and roads we’re being taken to. You are worth every moment and word. I love and miss you princess. Tqm🤎 by @eltallercitodeson

@keli_rosa dedicates “Coco”, a song played in “Son Jarocho”. Son Jarocho is resistance music that survived colonization and imperialism: a combination of indigenous Mexican, the colonizers from Spain and the enslaved Africans they brought with them.

“Coco” is a bird, this bird is an ibis it migrates from Canada, through the United States into Mexico.

Coco: White ibis bird

كوكو: طائر أبو منجل الأبيض

China: mujer de pelo rizado

Thank you @dr_rreal for your help 🤲🏾
