“Are you a boy or a girl?”

Sometimes you sit so outside of the binary that this is a common question from children who have already been taught it. Looking soft and gentle in pink lace, body and shoes scuffed up from masculine habits that never disappear; asking yourself that question on some days when you look in the mirror.

“Are you a boy or a girl?”

But life has never been that simple, the answers have never been so black and white. You look at how you were conditioned to view yourself and realize it was to the benefit of everyone BUT you. To put yourself in such a box would be a betrayal to the self. You are soft, you are hard. You are pretty, you are rough. You are light, you are darkness. This art is for those of us who were raised in a binary we could never relate to. It’s the core of a lot of my work. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned, stumbling into adulthood as a queer who teeters between gender normalities is that two things can be true at the same time. You can learn who you are over time; if it doesn’t align with what you’ve learned so far, you’re more than welcome to just be yourself, in a category all alone.

A lil’ sweet n’ sour treat for Eartha and Lilith’s Third Annual Holiday Spectacular 🍭

Whipping out these sparkly lollipops for the audience after a good Nutcracker tease was just the icing on the cuppycake! 🍩

Couldn’t resist delivering this combo as a delightful representation of what represents the dream-like aspects of this Holiday I still hang onto. ☁️

Playing the Nutcracker on the violin each year, March from Act I was particularly my favorite as it was the most difficult to master! 🐧

Elvis Presley’s Holiday album became my winter soundtrack after discovering it on the early days of YouTube and LimeWire 🤯

This was a healing stage to perform my vision - mostly thrifted and repurposed, a winter love letter to myself, a reminder to embrace my twinkly, sprinkly, pastel bits! 🎀

The sweetest thank you again to Lilith and Eartha for hosting such an immaculate show! 🎁
