Swipe till the end for a laugh! 🌟

Thank you to EVERYONE who came out to @dennainiquity's ALL KINGS round of brly karaoke last night. That was the most fun I've ever had performing, and this is even after the honor of doing two of my favorite numbers on the same stage last weekend!!! For the first time, I was crying from HAPPINESS after performing, and I had to stop myself so I could be presentable for callbacks and these above... 🫣

Getting real for a moment, it's been difficult to continue doing performance art this year — even without considering the state of the world, as impossible as that is, lack of support in expected places has resulted in nearly insurmountable hurdles. It's often felt like the wiser and more practical decision to just give up entirely. I know a lot of us are feeling the same way, especially regarding news about Ghost Light and the dwindling nature of safe spaces for artists like myself to express themselves. There is something uniquely painful about realizing you've put so much love and care and effort into something only to realize it's about to blow up in your face. It's moments like these that make me so glad I didn't quit when the people who promised to be there for me were not, when I wasn't even there for myself, when it seemed like everything was completely hopeless.

No matter what happens in the upcoming future, it means the world to have been able to share my joy, passion, and art with you all, especially on this stage. Thank you all for being alive and supporting local performance art.

“Are you a boy or a girl?”

Sometimes you sit so outside of the binary that this is a common question from children who have already been taught it. Looking soft and gentle in pink lace, body and shoes scuffed up from masculine habits that never disappear; asking yourself that question on some days when you look in the mirror.

“Are you a boy or a girl?”

But life has never been that simple, the answers have never been so black and white. You look at how you were conditioned to view yourself and realize it was to the benefit of everyone BUT you. To put yourself in such a box would be a betrayal to the self. You are soft, you are hard. You are pretty, you are rough. You are light, you are darkness. This art is for those of us who were raised in a binary we could never relate to. It’s the core of a lot of my work. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned, stumbling into adulthood as a queer who teeters between gender normalities is that two things can be true at the same time. You can learn who you are over time; if it doesn’t align with what you’ve learned so far, you’re more than welcome to just be yourself, in a category all alone.

Ladies and Gents, a day away!!!!! You can still get tickets and you can definitely get tickets at the door ($20). May 30th/8P, at the Tangent Gallery will be amazeballs!!!!!! The Lads Insane performing 2 sets of Mr. David Bowie’s music…deep cuts, shallow cuts, cuts that changed our lives!!!!!!!!!!!
And for intermission we’ll have the beauty and talents of Lushes LaMoan, Sophia Von Stardust and Elvis de Vil, which will be MC’d by the brilliant Kitty Paige.
