“I be the witch of the wood.”

Our first costumes this year are from Robert Eggers’ The Witch (2015).

A diabolical little fairy tale about a family banished from their Puritan settlement and living on the edge of the New England wilderness. Eggers is a master of research and weaves real superstitions, folk tales, and even court testimony from the actual witchcraft trials of the 1600s into a riveting 92 minutes.

The first time we watched this was at a cabin in the woods, and that location definitely amplified the terror of the pure darkness you can only get in the middle of nowhere. I still remember gasping at the final turn and almost holding my breath through the final moments of the film.

All the clothing pieces for Thomasin were handmade by Elysia, while the beautiful apple turnovers (including the rough puff pastry) were handmade by Nick.

🎃 Happy October, dearest friends and ghouls, and hello again to good ol’ Spooky Season! We made it! 👻

As y’all know, it’s always Halloween in our home, but this month is especially important to us because we get to share our Annual Costume Series with all of you!
Our Seventh year! How lucky we have been! 🕸️

Because this month has five Saturdays (culminating on Samhain proper), and we have 4 posts to share, today is a little taste of things to come… and some hints to ponder for the next few weeks 😉 but no spoilers!

We hope you enjoy the looks we have to share this month, and that you all have a safe and joyous October!

Happy Gotcha Day to my favorite little gremlin, little miss Wilhelmina Murray Harker Worcester Gilley.

5 years ago we went to a stranger’s house and picked up this little fuzzball who promptly barfed on Nick’s arm on the way home. Please enjoy a super cut of all my fave gremlin sounds that Mina Bobina has made over the years. by @elysiann

“This is a villain so evil, so sinister, so horribly vile that even the utterance of his name, strikes fear into the hearts of men. The only safe way to refer to this King of Darkness is simply… HIM.”

Closing out this October are two of the most dastardly, devious, and deliciously despicable villains to ever threaten the people of Townsville… Sedusa, and HIM!
Will those meddling Powerpuff Girls stop them this time??
Of course they will! 🩷💙💚

Thank you all for joining us for another year of our Halloween Costume Series, and for all your words of support! We love sharing our creativity and the holiday spirit with you all, and we look forward to even more silliness next October!
Have a save and Blessed Samhain and a Happy Halloween, everyone! - N&E

“Ah, this was too easy. Now, my only dilemma is whether to finish you off quickly, or do it painfully slow. But that would be splitting hairs! Ah, ha, ha, ha!” - Sedusa

The citizens of Townsville don’t stand a chance against our final costumes: Sedusa and Him. The most delightfully devilish pair of villains from The Powerpuff Girls.

I don’t think they ever teamed up, but I feel like they would totally get along. We had an absolute blast giving these two baddies an evil girls night. But they deserve it since they’re constantly foiled and beaten up by 3 kindergarteners.

Thanks for indulging in our spooky season shenanigans again this year. 🧡 I hope everyone has a happy Halloween, a blessed Samhain, a delightful Dia de los Muertos and a peaceful All Saints’ Day. by @elysiann

Our third costumes this year are from David Fincher’s Se7en.
Nick as Detective Mills and me as Tracy… and John Doe. 😈

We absolutely adore this movie in all its gory glory. It’s shocking, uncomfortable, and somehow manages to show that nihilism isn’t the answer.
Also, this year marks 30 years since its release! A happy accident.
This wound up being gruesome and yet very silly (in the true Worcester-Gilley fashion). My first attempt at a bald cap and also somehow our first time playing with fake blood.

People will barely be able to comprehend it, but they won’t be able to deny it. by @elysiann

“This isn’t going to have a happy ending.”

For our 3rd Look this Holiday Season, we take a bit of a darker turn…
30 Years, 3 Weeks, and 3 Days ago, Dir. David Fincher introduced the world to psychological triller and neo-noir masterpiece, “SEVEN”.
In an unrelenting world of violence, apathy, and near-constant rain, hotheaded Detective David Mills joins forces with reluctant veteran Detective Somerset to stop the infamous serial killer, John Doe.
An unironic comfort film in our house, this was such a blast to portray and I’ve never loved @elysiann more.
(But best to avoid the final slides if you don’t want to spoil one of the greatest twist-endings in film history).

For our second costumes this year, we went with a dose of fun before we get ooky spooky - Jay and Silent Bob!

My first introduction to these goobers was when I caught the middle of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on tv one day in college. I was confused and amused. Then Nick showed me Dogma and i became an instant fan of the View Askewniverse. I love that Clerks came from a bunch of people who just went “we should make a movie!” And then did.
Kevin Smith in interviews talks a lot about how if you already enjoy art, the only thing better is to make some of your own with friends. I couldn’t agree more. 🧡🧡 by @elysiann

Bethany: “I want to go with you.”
Jay: “What, steady? You want to be my girlfriend, okay… but Silent Bob gets to live with us, and YOU pay the rent.“
-Dogma (1999)

Our second looks for this year’s Halloween Costume Series are ever the I conic, politically incorrect, foul-mouthed, dr*g-dealing, child-punching, faithful “hetero-lifemates” of the View Askewniverse, Jay and Silent Bob!
Two of the most recognizable and beloved characters in Kevin Smith’s filmography, these two are always hilarious (if not always the most publically quotable).
