Got around to more formally photographing one of my plexiglass engravings titled “Time Simply Passes” & wrote something brief about the plexi pieces in general.

The magic of this medium to me is that despite whatever ridiculous amount of time my past self put into drawing on the surface with a Dremel, they’re nothing without the light - which is usually entirely out of my control. That split second where things align feels so cosmic that I often find myself forgetting I had anything to do with it! I feel grateful that they challenge even their maker and live lives that not even I always get to witness. As usual: chasing the sun & trying 2 catch the invisible taken in Catch & Release by @em_mcburke

Some photoshop drawings I’ve been working on this week. My camera roll is full of swirly wrought iron fences and gates and windows AND plants that are entwined with wrought iron fences and gates and well, windows. Been delighted to stumble across both casting shadows on the sidewalk that are practically indistinguishable from each other! taken in Cosmic Entanglement by @em_mcburke

Today marks 18 years without my dad! For some reason beyond words and logic, this year is unexpectedly difficult. Grief, of course, is not linear but it is still surprising when feelings that closer resemble their inception come flooding back all this time later.

This year I found my dad as a peer! Being 9 when I lost my dad kept him frozen in time for so long as an idolized father just as any kid would see their parent. I am now the same age that my parents were when they had me and feel delighted and surprised that I now suddenly have access to my dad as a fully dimensional person. I see my strengths but more importantly my same imperfections in him thank god! I also see his brightness and ability to not take himself too seriously in my loved ones that I’ve built my adult life with- many of whom never even met him. This shift has truly let him live along side me this time as a friend.

When I was young, I was always told he would be proud of me but this year I am more excited by the sureness that he would like me! He would think my friends are funny and that my house is awesome and he would love Joe - I know this because I’ve seen the same shit grin on both of their faces. I am beyond grateful that the life I’ve built has so much of him in it and that I get to start and end today surrounded by love. To 18 years and more to come! by @em_mcburke

My piece “Return to the Schuylkill” is featured in @82parris_ “Collecting the Now” auction fundraiser!! The preview is LIVE in their bio and the opening is this week!! Feeling a little gushy about this piece getting to see the faces of so many sweet and talented friends without me BUT y’all can do me the favor of going to the opening, bidding on some awesome work, and supporting 82 Parris who is a gem like no other.

Filet crochet animation! Used each cell from my crochet, pattern, and cyanotype to make different cycles of the same 7 frames.

Thinking lots about where I grew up these days and how formative it was that I was made to feel like I didn’t fit in. Feeling grateful that being a freak actually just means being singular & lucky that I found and invested in my interests even if others didnt understand them. Running and moving and growing and learning through the cyclical, cyclical cycles. by @em_mcburke
