Equine Therapy is an experiential approach to learning & healing where clients can reach psychological & behavioral goals. Partnering with horses, sessions are facilitated from the ground.

The way Equine Therapy works is through mirroring from the horses both individually and as a herd. Horses provide immediate feedback through their reactions to your body language and energy. This immediate feedback is metaphoric for your own emotions and relational patterns.

Because a horse’s heart emits an electromagnetic frequency that down-regulates your nervous system (helps you feel more calm & relaxed); reducing anxiety just by being near them.

Equine therapy works because it creates safe emotional connection with another sentient being. Because horses hold zero judgment, you can build trust naturally.

Equine Therapy is especially powerful for those that find traditional talk therapy limiting. If you process better by doing than talking; this hands-on, outdoor approach helps you build confidence & aelf-awareness through nervous system regulation and relational exercises with the horses.

Think about somatics this way:

Imagine trying to wash your hair by sitting down with someone and describing a shower. You could give a really detailed description of the ideal shower length, water pressure, temperature, even why and how certain shampoos work. But no matter how detailed you get, talking alone is not going to clean your hair - you have to actually get wet!

The same is true for our healing. Cognitive-based talk therapies can be so important for normalizing our experiences and creating awareness about our patterns. But we simply can’t shift our experience until we involve the body!

This is where somatic work is SO incredibly powerful. By dipping into our body’s experience *slowly* and in bite sized pieces, we start to get unstuck and find a deeper sense of safety in ourselves and the world. Which, in turn, brings more access to feelings of connection, confidence, curiosity, creativity, and more. ✨

Horses don’t respond to who we pretend to be. They respond to what’s true. 🐎
Our EAL Facilitator Certification begins November 13 at Shakti Ranch in Malibu: five months of trauma-informed, somatic, relational training for therapists and coaches who want to bring horses into their work, safely and ethically.

New to this work? Take Level 1 with me first, online or in person, and you can still join the November cohort.

Email hello@equinetherapymalibu.com and we’ll set up a time to talk about next steps.

A Rocky Mountain horse originally from Colorado, Cash brings a particular, feisty energy to sessions.

Clients are often drawn to his striking looks and boisterous personality, and find him an incredible partner for working with feelings of empowerment, boundaries, and recognizing safety in relationships.

Whether you’re learning to work with your own clients through our EAL certification program, or exploring your own patterns in our group and 1:1 session offerings, Cash is an incredible teacher and guide.

Our industry has a structural problem that nobody is talking about enough. Equine assisted work is stuck as a fragmented cottage industry. We serve those people who have been forgotten, pushed aside, overstepped – who are struggling the most, and need a pathway forward. Our industry is high mission, but low infrastructure. Most practitioners carry the sessions, the horses, the billing, the grant writing, and the program design all by themselves. And we’re failing. We’re burning out and closing shop. That’s not a personal failing. It’s a system’s problem. The truth is, we don’t need more certification or more training. That’s not what’s going to move the bottom line. We need more diversified funding pools and audiences to speak to. We know why this work is invaluable. It’s time to teach others why this is so, too. #unbridledrising #equineassistedservices #wellness #veterans #mentalhealth by @emazingg

Horses are always sensing, feeling, and responding to the environment and people around them. They pick up on things that most humans miss.

This makes them excellent partners for healing, something we at Equine Therapy Malibu are honored to witness everyday.

We offer individual and group sessions, monthly workshops and a certification program for those who are interested in becoming an Equine Assisted Therapist. ( Level 1 EAL course- September 12, 2026)

Horses mirror our emotions back to us. Feelings that we may be quite aware of or have suppressed due to trauma.

As you accesss your most authentic Self through co-regulation with these sentient beings, the horse will mirror back to you what they are sensing & feeling from you.

Within just a few minutes of being around a horse, your nervous system begins to downregulate…your body feels safe to feel what is most TRUE ⭐️

Energetic connection between you and the horse creates a sense of calm and helps you access subconscious thoughts and feelings.
