The equine world is undergoing a paradigm shift, with profound implications of how horses show up is healing partners. Movement from dominance based horsemanship to partnership base practice is not simply a trend in animal welfare. It is scientific and ethical re-orientation: away from compliance extracted through pressure and toward willing engagement built through trust, clarity, and mutual respect. Horse trained through partnership rather than dominance is not just healthier. It’s more present, more regulated, and more available for the kind of genuine relational exchanges that make healing possible. #unbridledrising #equineassistedlearning #horsesheal

Sometimes, when you’re in the midst of a swirl, when your heart feels pulled out of your chest, when you feel unmoored, going back to the basics is all you need.

Your son’s laughter. The shimmer in your daughter’s hair. The smell of dirt, fresh-cut grass, manure, and hay.

Light rays through clear shadows. One foot in front of the other.

Just this. 🤍 #UnbridledRising #equineassistedlearning #horsesheal

Horses don’t speak in words. They speak through their bodies and their nervous systems: a shift and weight, a soften eye, a breath released, a sudden illness. To connect with a horse, you have to slow down and settle your body. You have to become someone steady enough to be trusted. That’s the heart of the partnership. The horse relies on you, and you learn to rely on the horse. Trust has to be earned in both directions and it can’t be forced or faked. When a horse is truly heard, she becomes a full participant in this work. What she offers is honest, alive, and impossible to manufacture. #unbridledrising #equineassistedlearning #horsesheal

Horses don’t respond to who we pretend to be. They respond to what’s true. 🐎
Our EAL Facilitator Certification begins November 13 at Shakti Ranch in Malibu: five months of trauma-informed, somatic, relational training for therapists and coaches who want to bring horses into their work, safely and ethically.

New to this work? Take Level 1 with me first, online or in person, and you can still join the November cohort.

Email hello@equinetherapymalibu.com and we’ll set up a time to talk about next steps.

Horses aren’t here to be managed, controlled, or used. They’re here to be partnered with, and learned from.
A horse is a whole being. Horses are brave and uncertain, powerful and vulnerable, sure of the herd and still searching for their place in it. They feel insecurity just as surely as they feel belonging. They are always reading who leads, who follows, and who can be trusted. We don’t smooth over any of that. We honour it, because that is where the learning lives. #unbridledrising #equineassistedlearning #horsesheal

Youth mental health isn’t just a youth problem. It’s tomorrow’s chronic disease burden. Youth with four or more adverse childhood experiences have roughly 4x the risk of type two diabetes and 3x the risk of heart or respiratory disease in adulthood. This does not have to be so. We built the RISE curriculum with the intention of interrupting this trajectory, integrating purpose science, strength- based interventions, and self-determination theory because they build the exact protective factors needed to build resilience, self-esteem, empathy, and belonging. #unbridledrising #youthmentalhealth #adversechildhoodexperiences #horses

2 in 5 high schoolers report persistent sadness or hopelessness. 1 in 5 report anxiety. The systems built to catch them are stretched thin — 1 school counselor for every 372 students nationally (ASCA recommends 250), and 72% of U.S. counties don’t have a single child or adolescent psychiatrist (AACAP). That’s not a knock on those systems. They’re doing real work without enough people. It’s why we think about equine-assisted learning as additional capacity, not a replacement: a horse doesn’t require a child to find the words first. Not instead of. Alongside. #unbridledrising #youthmentalhealth #wellness #equineassistedtherapy #equineassistedlearning

A few things: 1) Bringing more awareness of research about the effectiveness of equine-assisted learning and psychotherapy will benefit this industry in so many ways. 2) Using research and science that already exist and integrating it into our practices will help us to build more evidence of the effectiveness of our work - and why what we are doing is so impactful. We’re here for it both. #UnbridledRising #equineassistedlearning #equineassistedpsychotherapy #horses #wellness

Potential doesn’t get unlocked by not looking at the parts you’d rather not look at. Being seen for your true essence means that you are being seen as an integrated whole, shadow and light together. #unbridledrising #equineassistedlearning #equineassistedpsychotherapy #wellness
