I did a sketch of Oslo, my maltipoo looking out across the River Plym from Saltram 🐩

When I’m not drawing, I’m either knitting or crocheting!

I’ve been having so much fun knitting using @maylily.knitting ‘s gosling pattern and @dropsdesign drops air yarn 🧶

I even made a teeny one using 2mm knitting needles and drops alpaca 🦙

I’ve been taking a break from knitting and crocheting big projects and finding joy in smaller patterns 🧶 🪿

I couldn’t resist drawing mother and baby runner ducks for the ‘Respect your mother’ lyric by Harry and of course I had to dress them up with ties 👔

Have you seen/are you due to see Harry Styles on his current tour? I was lucky enough to see him on the first night of his Wembley Stadium residency!

Hello, it’s wonderful to meet you all, my name is Lauren Ember and I’m an 2025 graduate illustrator from Plymouth who loves to draw botanicals, birds and wildlife both traditionally and digitally. I’m a huge fan of a repeat pattern and I love drawing intricate birds for print and greeting card designs. My inspirations include Cath Kidston, Fable England, William Morris and Studio Coverdale.

I’ve been lucky enough to have my work exhibited within collections featured in The Tate London, Somerset House London, D&AD New Blood, Arts University Plymouth and to have worked with Green Minds Plymouth, Peace Vintage and Arts University Plymouth and I’m on the lookout for more opportunities.

Animals have always been an important part of my life. I wanted to be a vet when I was younger, and I think that my love for animals shows in my illustrations. I love to foster the connection that we as humans have with animals by drawing birds, dogs, badgers, rabbits, and more.

Beyond illustration, I find joy in knitting, crocheting, board games, painting, drawing, and exploring new places on the train with friends. I care about sustainable practice as an illustrator and making a positive impact socially and environmentally. Ensuring that my outputs are as environmentally friendly as possible by using sustainably sourced materials that can be recycled or by offering products with limited runs of designs.

I would absolutely love to connect with other Devon and Cornwall based illustrators and I think that the Plymouth Illustration Collective will be a beautiful way to do that! In the meantime don’t be afraid to drop a dm and say hello! 👋🏻

A Mallard Duck with a flower basket to brighten your Thursday 🦆💐🧺

I loved illustrating this completely digitally using Procreate. Usually I start with a traditional pencil sketch even if the final piece is a digital illustration, I find it easier to compose the whole drawing if I’m putting pencil to paper for some reason! 🌺

This Eurasian Bullfinch print is live in my online shop (link in bio!) ✨

Originally hand-drawn in graphite pencil, I then scanned the artwork and brought it into Procreate, where I collaged each element together to build up rich texture and vibrant detail. The result is a textural, layered piece ready to add a pop of colour to your home 🌸🌷 taken in Devon by @emberillustrates

I’ve been having so much fun drawing on the new @patterndraw.app , have you tried it? I created this floral foliage wallpaper design on it using a portrait canvas and symmetry. The best thing about the app is being able to see how the pattern is going to look, whilst you’re working on it! 🌸🌿

I had so much fun trying out the Sangam technique where you carve out lines in leather hard clay and then once you’re happy with your design, you smush a different coloured clay into the lines and then scrape away the excess! It reminds me of Lino printing but in reverse almost!

In clay club we picked a playing card to base our designs on, I picked the ace card and went with a floral approach 🌸

I can’t wait to see it fired! (Hoping that it survives the kiln!)

Spring Florals 🌸 I know we’re all desperate to see some sun and beautiful flowers after a long winter and spring is just around the corner!

I’ve been working on a fun experimental project in adobe illustrator, creating patterns and greeting cards from a core group of floral elements and I can’t wait to create more using the same process. I think I might do a houseplant one next! 🥳🌿

As an illustrator, there are 3 wonderful and exciting moments, at least for me:

1. When you’ve finished a piece that you’ve poured everything into and you feel content with it.

2. When you see your work on a product in real life (like this cushion)

3. When your product is stocked in a shop or featured somewhere. I’m still working on this one.😅

How cool is this velvet cushion featuring my Eurasian Bullfinches 🐦 and Swallowtail Butterfly 🦋.

I got this printed by Contrado as a present for my parents at Christmas 🎄
