Members Feature! This week, we are admiring this amazing work by PIC member @emberillustrates we love Lauren's colourful depictions of nature!

Hello, it’s wonderful to meet you all, my name is Lauren Ember and I’m an 2025 graduate illustrator from Plymouth who loves to draw botanicals, birds and wildlife both traditionally and digitally. I’m a huge fan of a repeat pattern and I love drawing intricate birds for print and greeting card designs. My inspirations include Cath Kidston, Fable England, William Morris and Studio Coverdale.

I’ve been lucky enough to have my work exhibited within collections featured in The Tate London, Somerset House London, D&AD New Blood, Arts University Plymouth and to have worked with Green Minds Plymouth, Peace Vintage and Arts University Plymouth and I’m on the lookout for more opportunities.

Animals have always been an important part of my life. I wanted to be a vet when I was younger, and I think that my love for animals shows in my illustrations. I love to foster the connection that we as humans have with animals by drawing birds, dogs, badgers, rabbits, and more.

Beyond illustration, I find joy in knitting, crocheting, board games, painting, drawing, and exploring new places on the train with friends. I care about sustainable practice as an illustrator and making a positive impact socially and environmentally. Ensuring that my outputs are as environmentally friendly as possible by using sustainably sourced materials that can be recycled or by offering products with limited runs of designs.

I would absolutely love to connect with other Devon and Cornwall based illustrators and I think that the Plymouth Illustration Collective will be a beautiful way to do that! In the meantime don’t be afraid to drop a dm and say hello! 👋🏻

Pink crochet crossbody bag & life update 🌸
modelled by @doodlebette
I’ve been massively enjoying my time off from uni, the summer and having the time to knit and crochet loads. This is a bag that I made for my friend’s birthday which is lined with a pretty floral fabric and complete with rose gold magnetic clasps. 🌟
My current work in progress is a cream chunky knit cardigan, with 100% wool and it will have 3D crochet hot pink flower appliqués all over. 🌺
I’ll be entering my third year of illustration at AUP next week and hopefully I’ll be able to share all of the colourful things I’ll be making with you.
Hope you are all doing great 🌟🌟
