“Music is healing. Music is movement-building. Music is resistance.”

EMC’s Behind The Culture continues with Kaytetye producer @rona.ngamperle, reflecting on how her connection to Mparntwe/Alice Springs, Country and community shapes the way she approaches electronic music. Beyond the relationship between place, movement and sound, RONA. speaks about preserving cultural knowledge, building stronger First Nations music ecosystems, maintaining creative autonomy through Rarre Records, and the ideas informing her latest EP, To The Ground.

Before the edits, the dubplates and the remixes, François K was a failed drummer looking for his way into New York’s music scene.

From cutting tape by hand to helping shape disco, remix culture and dance music, his story spans five decades of experimentation, community and influence.

Recorded live at @club77sydney on Gadigal Country, @lornaclarkson sits down with @francoisknyc to reflect on the moments, people and experiments that shaped his life in music.

Watch François K - A Conversation Through Music now.

Presented by @emcaustralia + @wip_music + @club77sydney with the support of friends of culture @monkeyshoulder. EMC’s initiatives and programs are supported by the Australian Government through @music.aus

@gillespeterson returns to Australia this November, and EMC is bringing back Liner Notes: Tales from Down Under.

On Tuesday 17 November, Gilles joins Rob G (Galliano) at @vanguardnewtown (Gadigal Country/Sydney) for an intimate sit-down evening of music, reflection and storytelling.

Described by Gilles as “radio for your eyes”, Liner Notes sees the pair “join the musical dots”, moving through jazz, club culture and decades of musical discovery while unpacking the people, places and stories behind the records.

With DJ support from @melodypak1 (Fanático Records).

We anticipate a sellout for this special event. Limited tickets are available now.

“Laziness can sometimes be a virtue.” - @francoisknyc

Inspired by pioneering DJ Walter Gibbons and looking for an advantage at DJ auditions, François K began experimenting with a reel-to-reel tape recorder, marking the tape by hand, and cutting it up all before sticky-taping it back together…

One of those experiments became his edit of Rare Earth’s ‘Happy Song,’, considered by some as the ‘Amen break’ of techno and causing havoc on the dancefloors of 1970s New York.

#SoundSummit2026 wasn’t just about the latest technology and gear in electronic music… It was about experiencing what happens when curiosity is given room to take over.

Across a day of live demonstrations, artist sessions and hands-on experimentation, one idea kept surfacing: try things, make mistakes, follow accidents.

We unpack The Value of Experimentation: Inside Sound Summit Australia in our latest EMC feature.

@francoisknyc’s DJ career almost began by accident.

Before becoming one of dance music’s most influential DJs and remixers, François K was a self-described “failed drummer” and one of the many countless emerging musicians chasing the same opportunities across New York.

Then he realised the competition looked very different in the DJ booth.

“None of it was planned. None of it was on purpose. It just happened.”

Few machines have embedded themselves into electronic music quite like the MPC.

For nearly 40 years, the machine and its iconic workflow has found its way across all genres… From hip-hop to house; Detroit techno to R&B…

At #SoundSummit2026 - Australia’s first community-focused event for sound designers, DJs and producers - @sampology and @frankbooker will take the new @akai_pro MPC Sample for a hands-on spin. Live sampling, chopping sounds on the fly and showing what the latest evolution of the MPC workflow can actually do.

One machine, almost four decades of evolution - and just one of many deep dives into the gear behind electronic music happening at Sound Summit.

From the Minimoog to the DX7 and SH-101, some synths didn’t just make sounds, they carried entire genres.

Take a trip through an extremely short history of synthesisers w/ @lukemillionmusic, exploring how these machines went from room-sized experiments to portable instruments, studio necessities and eventually software living inside your computer.

Want to go know more? Catch Luke at #SoundSummit2026 for A Short History of Synthesisers, presented by @arturia_official, where he’ll dig deeper into the instruments and ideas that helped shape electronic music.
