Most community events give you conversation. I’ve been challenging the status quo of late (ok my whole life really)

“The Table” is designed to help you move something forward.

It’s a FREE monthly, facilitated gathering for people who want to:

* meet people beyond their usual circles
* get perspective on an idea, decision or challenge
* offer their knowledge and connections to others
* leave with one practical next step

There are only 27 seats because this is participatory. You won’t sit through a panel, watch one person take over or be left to “work the room”. We eat together (you pay for your meal) and we move forward - together.

No pitching.
No prospecting.
No coaching funnel hiding behind the word community. Ick. *never selling you anything promise

You can bring a project, a personal goal, a community issue, an unfinished idea or something you’ve been avoiding (ya bills lol) You don’t need to arrive with a polished plan or impressive title. It’s about human connection. The 12 people signed up on the waitlist are fascinating 🧐 you’ll see. I bring the facilitation goods and— the good people together!

The point is simple: meet people, exchange useful support and take action after the event.

Community is not something we should only consume. It’s something we can practise and build together.

The first Table will be held at Dusty’s in Fitzroy. Big car park 🅿️ so it’s easy to be there. Inclusive, accessible, diverse. Did I mention free? 🆓

“Who wants Pasifika-owned services?” 🙌🏽🌊

A snippet of Emeli & Isabel summarising the solutions shared across the tables at our One Moana Roundtable, including the call for Pasifika-led programs and frameworks for our young people.

Support shaped by our people, grounded in our cultures and informed by the realities our young people face—especially those involved in, or at risk of entering, the youth justice system.

Our communities have solutions. Let’s back them. 🤎 by @emelipaulo

I nearly talked myself out of this before I’d opened the platform. No experience at all! Then I started making things, changing things and teaching myself as I went. Several hours and a questionable bedtime later, I had something I could test.

It’s called SoCo Wayfinder. I’m building it to help underrepresented founders and independent practitioners work out their next step and find support.

Confidence is still catching up. At least now it has something to work with.

Thanks to @simonsquibb and the World’s Biggest Business Challenge for spurring me on to create my first AI app using @emergentlabs Here we go!

What have you been meaning to make more room for? Friends? Creativity? Yourself?

The Table by SoCo is coming this November. Share food, join a facilitated inspo-tainment conversation or settle into something quietly creative. Participate at your own pace.

Come away with a new connection, a little clarity or simply an evening you’re glad you made time for.

Tag that friend you keep saying you’ll catch up with. Coming solo? There’s a seat for you too. What would be possible with the right people at your table?

Anyone else get dressed and then have to talk themselves out of being an absolute arsehole to themselves?

I filmed myself checking my outfit and sunspots, feeling fat, deciding I’m fluffy, then telling myself I feel beautiful. Followed by several rounds of “I got this”. Apparently getting dressed now includes facilitating a meeting with myself.

I live with CPTSD. One thing I’ve learnt is that repeated trauma can affect how you see yourself. Shame and self-blame can become so familiar that you start accepting them as facts.

Understanding that helps me question the bullshit. I can recognise an old belief without letting it make every decision about my day.

I think of that shame as a persistent weed. I didn’t plant it, but I’m learning how to tend the garden. Some days that means humour and a pep talk. Other days I need rest, therapy or support. A weed coming back doesn’t mean I’ve failed at gardening.

This is part of how I look after myself. I can be capable, love my work, make people laugh and still need a minute to remember I’m allowed to feel good in my own skin.

It also informs how I facilitate. I don’t know what everyone’s carrying when they enter a room, but I can make space for them without requiring an explanation.

Today, I’m fluffy, I feel beautiful and I’m posting the fucking video.

I’m collecting ideas for the book I’m writing, and I’d love to know: what little tools, tricks or bits of wisdom help you loosen the grip of an old pattern and get back on your own side? by @emelipaulo

10+ years later, I’m still giving it a go. Just with better questions.

I found photos from 2016, having cocktails on Necker Island with Richard Branson and Brené Brown, talking about being changemakers. Still a fairly outrageous sentence.

I was full of energy and ideas. A decade later, I have more experience, a better understanding of my limits and a considerably greater appreciation for the people who’ve helped me along the way.

A throwback captures a moment. It doesn’t show everything that happened afterwards: what we built, what changed, the setbacks, the ordinary work of finding our feet again.

I’m proud of what I’ve built. I’m also asking different questions now. What can I sustain? What needs to change? Who can I ask for help?

Perhaps you’re figuring out your own version of that. You can have years of experience and still be new to the situation you’re in.

What’s helped me most has been the people at my table. People who’ve offered practical help, honest conversations and room to work things out. Being on the receiving end has deepened my understanding of reciprocity, including letting care come back my way.

That’s part of why I’m building The Table: a place to reconnect, meet people and explore what we could make possible together.

What would be possible with the right people at your table? Truly, I’d love to know below 👇 by @emelipaulo

What does it mean to you to have a Pasifika Member of Parliament? 🌺

For some, it’s about finally seeing someone who looks like us in a space where decisions are made.

For others, it’s knowing there is someone in the room who understands our cultures, our families, our communities and the challenges we face.

Because when our communities are represented, our experiences have a greater chance of being heard, understood and considered in the decisions that affect us.

For generations, Pasifika communities have contributed to Victoria raising families, building businesses, strengthening communities and creating change.

Now, we’re seeing our voices represented in Parliament too.

So we want to hear from you:

I felt on purpose today. Good at what I do, connected to why I do it, and ready to create the content I’ve been avoiding.

Three seconds after capturing this, I fell in the gutter and hurt my leg. Strangers laughed. Hard. We alll did! lol

There’s something uncomfortable about finally letting yourself be seen and immediately being seen in a way you didn’t choose.

But being embarrassed doesn’t cancel out being capable. I still had something to offer before I fell over. I still do.

I’d like to be seen for my work regularly on here now. Apparently, my first public appearance was in the gutter. You can only laugh 😮‍💨😜 by @emelipaulo
