Ever since 1880 our family has been all about paint & interior design. Or better yet: of color, matière, pigments, texture and smell.

Another glimpse inside Bedford Park House. Here, @scottmadduxstudio layers our Spring Thicket with assured colour and pattern, allowing Morris’s final wallpaper design from 1894 to unfold with depth and continuity. Interwoven foliage and tulip heads bring movement to the room, shown in the Fruit Punch colourway, faithfully drawn from the original archive document.

For London Design Week, join us tomorrow at 12pm for a talk with our Design Director Claire Vallis and Scott Maddux to discuss 26 new wallpaper and fabric designs completed from the unfinished sketches of William Morris and John Henry Dearle, and explore how these patterns can be styled in any interior space.

Conceived as a trompe-l’œil postcard to Shanghai, our hand-painted ‘Marquetrie Bund’ design envelops our Shanghai showroom in a panoramic cityscape which overlooks the storied Yu Garden and river, creating an atmosphere that feels at once expansive and intimate.

Rich tones of maple and burr articulate the intricately rendered wood grain, while sculptural clouds, verdant trees and graceful promenades animate the composition with a sense of natural beauty.

Evoking Shanghai’s layered history as a meeting point between East and West, the design draws upon the Art Deco façades of the Bund, from its clock towers and colonnades to the stepped parapets of its grand riverfront buildings.
