Groundswell 2026, wow 🧡

We had an incredible two days running the first ever (!) Em Gen tent alongside our amazing co-hosts @natoora and Abunda.

We hosted 16 different sessions that inspired conversations, built connections, elevated young voices and left us feeling an overwhelming sense of pride. This community continues to make us so proud and confident that a better food and farming system is possible - and is already being built.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Groundswell team and our funders @rothschildfoundationofficial, @nfu_mutual, @esmeefairbairn and the CHK foundation for enabling us to do this and for their support in helping 100 young people attend this year’s festival.

Finally, thank you to all our members, supporters, volunteers, partner organisations and @groundswell_agriculture for making the last few days so very special - here’s to the next 🤝

Are you aged between 18 and 35 and passionate about building a just food system that nourishes people and planet? Seeking a network that will enable, encourage, and empower?

If so, Emergent Generation is for you!

Our current #farming and #foodsystems are not sustainable. Our dominant systems are reductive and depletive, damaging to the natural and cultural environment, and are harmful to human #health. To be truly #sustainable, we take bold action, at pace. The scale and complexity of the challenge can be overwhelming. But the transition has begun, driven by individuals and organisations with vision, passion, commitment and knowledge.

#EmergentGeneration supports a network of young people showing each other that they are not alone and that together we can turn passion for change into #action. Collaborating with experienced founders and mentors, Emergent Generation works as a connector to create space for building connection and confidence.

We’re a friendly and diverse #network of nearly 400 young people, we celebrate each other’s successes and share all sorts of opportunities for training, events, #jobs, and volunteering. As a member you can also develop your own #skills by helping to shape Emergent Generation, plan events, help with comms or outreach.

Orrrr you could simply come along to our events and take part! We often have heavily subsidised or free local meetups, farm walks, workshops and an annual 2-day flagship event.

This network is an opportunity to share and develop ideas, projects, and passions. A chance to explore tough questions with like-minded individuals without judgement.

There exists a range of networks for young farmers, growers and environmentalists. But we believe that if we are to see deep and holistic change across the complex farming and food system, we need a cross sector approach that engages a diverse range of people from rural, urban and peri-urban communities.

Emergent Generation is a diverse network of #young people (18-35) working together to build an agroecological #foodsystem and regenerative future. We are passionate about transforming our current farming and food system so that it is good for people and the planet.

Our mission: We ENABLE young people to share #knowledge, resources, skills, opportunity, and #inspiration.

We celebrate successes and ENCOURAGE each other to create or engage in activity that has #impact.

We EMPOWER our diverse #community to build an agroecological food system and regenerative future.

A #diverse range of young people are key to an agroecological and #regenerative future, with the next generation of practitioners, influencers and leaders spearheading the transition. A meaningful transition cannot stop at the #farm gate. This is why we’re passionate about working across the entire value chain.

Our #ecosystem includes those practically involved in farming, forestry, growing, #land management, conservation, #policy, consultancy, and advice. We welcome researchers, students, informal learners, and the curious. We engage with those involved in finance, marketing, #health care, tourism, technology, teaching, art, activism, cooking, and #nutrition. We’d love to connect with young entrepreneurs, geographers, doctors, vets, chefs, retailers, influencers, journalists, and early career leaders too!

Em Genr’s are all at different stages in their journey. They are based in #rural to #urban areas throughout the UK and beyond and meet online as well as in person.

Although we are unique, we work in partnership too. Our friends and partners include LWA @youth__flame @oxfordrealfarmingconference @cotswoldsnl @nfyfc @ryp2018 @blackmountainscollege @sixinchesofsoil @nfueducation @conygreefarm @ffc_commission and many more.

If this sounds like you, join the network following the link in our bio!

🌳 Farm walk alert! 🌳🦫

Join us at award-winning organic Woodland Valley Farm @woodlandvalleyfarm_events in Cornwall on Saturday 14 November (10am–2pm).

Em Gen’r Felicity @farmerflis will show us round her family’s farm and chat about how organic beef farming, an education centre and a beaver haven all live side by side in one beautiful Cornish valley. Beaver expert Chris Jones @kernowbeaver will join the walk too, and we’ll kick things off with a cuppa and Felicity’s famous flapjacks.

You’ll get to spend time with other Em Genr’s too!

Tucked away in a secluded valley and mentioned in the Domesday Book, it’s a 170-acre regenerative farm that’s been organic since 2002. The family are founding members of @pastureforlife and use #silvopasture to give their cattle shade and shelter. Six acres of beaver-created wetlands are home to rare birds like the Willow Tit, and a further 100 acres of #agroforestry and woodland even includes some temperate rainforest! 🌳🦫

🎟️ Tickets from £10 for 18–35 members (free to join!), with a locally sourced light lunch option available. Supporter tickets (over 35s) available too.

Come and see regenerative farming in action this October!

The @emergentgeneration network is heading to Good Small Farms @goodsmallfarms in Stroud to explore how Hammonds Farm has developed from a beef farm into the beautifully diverse farming system it is today.

We’ll meet founder Eric Walters at Stroud Farmers Market before walking up to the farm together, where we’ll hear about the changes the team has made since 2021 and see the different parts of the farm in action. Or meet us there if that’s easier for you!

There’ll be plenty of time to ask questions and meet other young people (18-35) interested in food and farming systems that nourish people and planet. There are some supporter tickets available for over 35s too, as we value intergenerational knowledge sharing.

Afterwards, we’ll head to Stroud Brewery @stroudbrewerytaproom to carry on the conversations over lunch, if you’d like!

Tickets are subsidised for Em Gen members (18-35) - £10 (it’s free to join the network ;)

Supporter tickets £20.

Grab yours via the link in the Em Gen bio 👆

Are you new to Em Gen and want to learn more about what we do? Have you been a member for a while, but are yet to come to an event or meet anyone new? Get involved with our buddy-up scheme!

Let us know who you are and the kind of person you’d like to talk to - and we’ll link you up with a member with similar interests. Whether you want to talk about sheep, mycorrhizae, cooking, changemaking, advocacy or legumes and pulses etc, there will be someone who shares your passion!

This is a great opportunity to capitalise on our network. That first connection can introduce you to the rest of the gang, share their knowledge and experience, and show you how to make the most of being an Em Gen member.

Just send an email to info@emergentgeneration.co.uk with a brief introduction and we’ll take it from there! by @emergentgeneration

“We are not alone in trying to craft livelihoods that support the land.” 🌱

Reflecting on our ‘A Celebration of Young Women Working in Farming and Food’ panel at Groundswell, Ila Malhotra Gregory shared how important connecting with other young women in the sector has been to her.
Finding others on similar paths can make working in food and farming feel less isolating.

Creating opportunities for those connections and that sense of community is a big part of what Em Gen is about. 🧡 by @emergentgeneration
