I remember playing Street Fighter as a kid. Not your typical 80’s girl but instead in gaming with the lads 🤣 HADOUKEN! ☄️🥊

Very male-heavy audience last night… clearly the girls who grew up playing Street Fighter were outnumbered 🤣

Does anyone else feel like they are living in a dimension where everything has somehow been reversed. Where being able to watch what is happening in the world and simply carry on is considered normal, while being profoundly disturbed by it makes you somehow too emotional, too angry, too much.

I don’t understand that version of “normal”. In fact I rebuke this version of “normal”.

There are people sitting at home with a knot in their stomach. People who avoid the news because they cannot absorb another image. People who open social media and wonder how footage of unimaginable human suffering can sit between an advertisement and somebody’s dinner.

You know who you are.
Maybe you’ve been telling yourself. I’ll say something. I’ll do something. I’m going to… I have myself ruined running this over and over every day in my head to the point it has actually made me ill.

We are watching human beings being killed, displaced, starved and brutalised across this planet and somehow we still manage to reduce human life to discussions about sanctions, money, rankings, procedure, optics and consequences.

And yes, institutions have rules. Governments have processes. Sporting bodies have regulations. Consequences are real.

But there has to be a point at which our humanity interrupts the fucking meeting.

Because what exactly are all these rules for if preserving our place within them becomes more important than the human beings they were supposedly created to serve?

We spend our lives learning how to behave.
Be reasonable. Be polite. Be productive. Follow the rules. Don’t make people uncomfortable. Don’t be too loud. Don’t be too angry. Dont be TOO MUCH! Don’t stick your head too far above the poppies/pulpit.

Meanwhile, some of the most horrifying things human beings can do to one another are discussed in careful language by people sitting politely around tables.

Maybe the thing we should be frightened of isn’t the person who cannot tolerate that.
Maybe it’s how extraordinarily well the rest of the world has learned by @emeroneill14

Four individual medals 🙌🏽 The most Ireland has ever won at a European Athletics Championships. Two gold, one silver and one bronze from a nation of fewer than six million people, competing against some of Europe’s largest sporting powers, is INSANE.

Irish athletes are not showing up just to take part. They are there to contend, break records and win 💪🏽

We’re leaving our mark everywhere lately 😅 In sport, on screen, in music and in writing. A small country with serious talent, proving ourselves once again on the international stage ☘️🇮🇪

I lost my phone a couple of weeks ago and with it all my contacts, access to Watsapp, email.. literally everything 😭

Had hoped it would turn up but St. Anthony is not playing ball 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have a new number finally but I have lost all of my contacts, so please accept my apologies if you have been trying to get in touch. If you called or text me in the last 3 weeks I didn’t get it.

A portrait of Emer O'Neill for the
"Faces of Ireland" a long-term portrait project documenting the people who shape contemporary Ireland.
In aid of The Irish MPS Society, a totally voluntary charity.

Speaker, activist, presenter and an ex international basketball player Emer was very intesting to work with.
I was very impressed with Emer knowing what a setter in Volleyball is.(My Sport)
My own relations don't even know what a setter is ;-)

Thank you Joe Gavin again for your studio which we would be lost without.
