Come celebrate the launch with me tomorrow! ✨

I can’t believe tomorrow is the day I finally hold my new children’s book in my hands! You can get Black and Irish: Awesome Icons tomorrow at @chaptersbookstore on Parnell Street at 6.30pm.

Illustrating this book felt like it healed parts of my childhood and I hope it will be healing for kids today too and inspire them to be whatever and whoever they want as they read the stories of other Black and Irish people who accomplished great things.

You can find stories about the lives of Black and Irish icons like the presenter and star🌟 @katja_miaa, artist and musician @abycoulibaly, tv presenter and activist @emeroneill14, Olympic athlete @rhasidat_adeleke, World Cup footballer @pico_lopes, Gaelic player @boidusayeh and more.

Every Black History Month, we must confront the uncomfortable truth: African history has too often been distorted, minimised, appropriated, or erased to preserve a Eurocentric worldview.

When historical evidence challenges the accepted narrative, watch how the goalposts move. Watch how legitimate questions are dismissed, how African achievements are downplayed, and how the conversation is redirected through denial, gaslighting, and historical obfuscation.

Erasure is not evidence. Repetition is not truth. And an established narrative is not beyond scrutiny.

We must reclaim our historical agency, examine the evidence, challenge inherited assumptions, and refuse to let anyone dictate the limits of our ancestors’ legacy.

Our history did not begin with colonialism. Our civilisations did not begin when Europe discovered them. Our ancestors were creators, scholars, architects, philosophers, scientists, and pioneers long before many modern historical narratives gave them their rightful recognition.

This is about more than the past. It is about identity, knowledge, dignity, and who gets to define the story of humanity.

KNOW YOUR HISTORY. QUESTION THE NARRATIVE. FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE. BREAK THE CYCLE OF HISTORICAL ERASURE.
