Sofia Coppola for @wallpapermag. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of @sofiacoppola’s Marie Antoinette film, @chateauversailles has presented a major new retrospective at the palace’s Petit Trianon, which opens today. I had the privilege of asking her questions about the legacy of the landmark film that has cemented itself in pop culture history. We discussed bringing her cinematic archive into the Queen’s actual home, her new companion book with Andrew Durham published by @mack_publishing, and the intimate new @mubi feature documentary on the production of the costume drama, captured by her late mother, Eleanor Coppola. A truly incredible reporting experience. Special thanks to @cartier for helping bringing this story to life. Link in bio to read the article.

If you are in Paris between now and January 2027, the exhibition is a must-see.

For my latest article for @ee72, I had the pleasure of interviewing @gugumbatharaw about her new supernatural thriller, Possession, on Sky Atlantic @skytv. Blending mystery with Jamaica’s lush landscape and vibrant energy, the story follows one woman’s journey into long-buried family secrets and the past’s lasting hold on the present. We also discussed her diverse filmography and her painting work. Link in bio to read the article #Possession

Growing up reading about translations of Homer’s epic poem and first learning about the Trojan War in school, I walked into Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey expecting a grand tale. What I walked out with was something deeper. The film is a psychological study of post-war trauma and also reflects the world we live in, where our modern power systems are designed to wear us down, like what happened to the people of Troy. I hope you enjoy reading my latest substack post, which is a long-read review, and do like, comment and subscribe to Wonders in Hiding. Link in bio ✹

Thrilled to have contributed articles for @ee72 about two incredible photographers whose works transcended boundaries. I sat down with director @yemibamiro to discuss his new documentary Black is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story that premiered at this year’s @britishfilminstitute #LFF, and Kwame Brathwaite’s legacy as a visionary photographer and activist who tirelessly worked for the betterment of Black people not just in America but beyond. I also wrote about the inspirational and fearless Lee Miller whose retrospective exhibition at @Tate Britain gives us a glimpse into a seminal career that went beyond fashion, surrealism, modelling, portraiture and war photojournalism. She was ahead of her time and limitless in her attitude to life and work.

Brathwaite and Miller also share something important. The power of documentation and archive. Both artists children ensured that their legacies continued on by bringing their decades-long work to the world’s attention that for so long has been hidden or overlooked.

The work archivists do and those who document stories happening in our world is essential especially in these contentious times when history is being rewritten or intentionally removed. They preserve society’s collective memory, counteracting against the erasure of history so that people now and in the future can learn and understand the past. Knowledge is power after all.

I spent a few days in Berlin viewing Christelle Oyiri’s fantastic and thought-provoking new exhibition Dead God Flow for @las_artfoundation in @cank.berlin. I discovered that Project Pat—whose music I’m a fan of is related to Juicy J, who is part of Three 6 Mafia, a group that has inspired @crystallmess’s musical journey. Since the trip to Berlin, I’ve been playing Pat’s songs on repeat, especially from the album Mista Don’t Play: Everythangs Workin. One of the tracks from it is featured in the space of the former brutalist shopping centre, in rhythm with the flashing light installation. We discussed the conceptualisation and themes of Dead God Flow, the research project in Memphis, Tennessee that inspired the exhibition, her musical influences and philosophical inspirations, religion, alongside her personal experiences and her expansive, world-building creative practice.

For my first ever article for @time, I wrote about @petracostal’s new documentary Apocalypse in the Tropics that’s premiered on @Netflix.

The Oscar-nominated director discussed the making of the important and timely documentary, the inception of Christian nationalism in Brazil and how it reflects what’s happening around the world including America, the evangelical religious leaders taking control of Brazil’s politics, and social media’s role in spreading misinformation and hateful rhetoric made worse with people like Elon Musk.

Apocalypse in the Tropics is one of those documentaries you won’t stop thinking about. An eye-opening and brilliant watch. Link in bio to read the full article.
