MANJU Journal is honoured to be featured by #ARTnews as we share the next chapter of our journey after 9 years of documenting and amplifying contemporary African creativity, alongside the launch of our new non-profit cultural organisation, New Africa Cultural Initiative (NACI) (@newafricaculturalinitiative). . Our founder Richmond Orlando Mensah (@orlandofficialle) in conversation with writer Emi Eleode (@emieleode) reflects on the evolution of MANJU Journal and the vision behind NACI — an organisation dedicated to preserving African cultural heritage, supporting creative research, and fostering new forms of cultural exchange across Africa. . NACI’s inaugural programme, Preserving Legacies – Creative Futures, begins this August in Accra with a workshop facilitated by multidisciplinary artist Zohra Opoku (@zohraopoku) and hosted in partnership with Foundation for Contemporary Arts—Ghana (@fca_ghana). . A truly inspiring trip to Kigali 🫶🏾 Seeing the passion and sincerity behind @gica.kigali made me very hopeful—hopeful about what we can do with our communities, hopeful about how we can pour back into our beloved continent, and hopeful for the future of art. I’m so proud of my friend @gahiga_____ @kamsgahiga for what she and @kanezaschaal have built. I will very fondly remember this moment. I’m also grateful for the incredible people this endeavour brought together. There was a real sense of allyship and happiness. GICA’s inaugural exhibition Inuma: A Bird Shall Carry the Voice includes artists: Kaneza Schaal, Christian Nyampeta, Sanaa Gateja, Innocent Nkurunziza, Féline Ntabangana, and Cédric Mizero.

Excited to share the official launch of @officialbyredo’s Bal d’Afrique magazine of which I was the guest curator and creative consultant for 👩🏾‍💻💌 @officialbyredo have been a long-time favourite brand of mine so to have been commissioned to bring the creativity of Africa to life for them with their first ever magazine (!) has been a career highlight. There are three covers featuring the works of painter Rachel Marsil @rachel.marsil , photographer Tyler Mitchell @tylersphotos and filmmaker Gabriel Moses @gabrielomoses . Inside, we hear stories about African identity, nostalgia, fashion, art, film, and so much more as told by powerhouses such as Thebe Magugu @thebemagugu Korty @korty_eo , @dozie.kanu Dozie Kanu, @yuahair and many more. Its been amazing to hear about the outpour of responses to my solo shows at @copperfield_london (still on until 17th June, London) and @balticgateshead (on until 29th October) Just sharing some snap shots (and a couple likkle details) from @financialtimes @guardian (#theobservermagazine ), #thejournal and @artsy links to write-ups will be in my bio later on.... Have had some pretty deep convos with folk from all over. A lot of folk have hardly picked up a control pad in their lives, so nice one on giving it a try and taking it in for a moment.
