At this week's #AmorimCapClassiqueChallenge2026, the Cap Classique fraternity presented @joaquimsa of @amorim_za with a modest gesture of appreciation. Since 2002, and with Joaquim at the helm, Amorim Cork has helped promote and recognise the extraordinary quality of Cap Classique, its innovative producers and the creating of a wine category inextricably linked to South Africa. Thanks also to @timhoek and @takuando of @hautecabriere for the humungus bottle of your Cap Classique that we could present to Joaquim. Hopefully he is not drinking it by himself, in which case he won't be around for next year's event.

The new Prospect wine range from @diemersdalwines honours the legacy of 6 generations of the Louw family who farmed and still farm here. One of the wines is Solderwyn [attic wine]. Sauvignon Blanc fortified and kept in barrel in a loft above the cellar, giving it a nutty, Madeirised chatacter. A brilliant addition to the Diemersdal portfolio.

An evening of wine fellowship, warm and convivial, was held by @joaquimsa of @amorim_za at @the_vine_bistro on @glenellyestate. It culminated in something surreal, a 1880 vintage Madeira wine...1880. The thing was electric, racy and probing, almost restless in verve and energy. Made from the Malvasia grape, this is the sweetest Madeira style, lashings of dried apricot and nuts and salt providing a heady experience. The once-in-a-lifetime kind.

Sunday night visit to Stellenbosch, tasting of 8 Cape wineries grouping taking top-end South African wines to the world. @sadiefamilywines @mullineuxwines @anthony_hamilton_russell @kanonkopwineestate @meerlustwine @kleinconstantia @restlessrivervineyards @vilafonte. A great collective & initiative. Needless to say, the wines are sublime. by @emilewow
