Woman in my 40s embracing life and lifts!

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve been learning to accept and acknowledge living imperfectly in my 40’s. The first half of this year felt hard, for lots of reasons, but it felt harder at times as I had no self compassion. All this time, whilst I haven’t been perfect, I’ve been as consistent as I could be in light of circumstances. However I’m very good at telling myself I’ve failed as I haven’t achieved ‘perfection’ or what I think is ‘correct’. I’ve had to work hard at telling myself that I’ve done well and achieved what I can do but there’s always a little devil on my shoulder telling me that because I haven’t done something that means I’ve failed. I’ve actually learnt a lot about myself recently, mainly that I don’t give up. For example, I may have times when I don’t get to the gym, but I will all always get back in the end. I may be too anxious to go on my own but I’ll join a class instead to motivate me. Despite challenges I have never given up. There is no end to this journey, and there is no rush. If things take time then so be it. I’m working from the bottom up to get myself into a space that works for me and my fitness. I’m trying hard not to compare myself to others but to enjoy my own life. I’m accepting that I am perfectly imperfect and that’s OK. by @emilygettingstronger

A little update….i haven’t been documenting my journey as much as I have done previously but that’s not to say it’s not happening! If anyone is interested here is a little update. Since my last post I’ve been getting back to the gym, back to eating more nutritious food and aiming to move more. I’m feeling a more positive mindset and have realised that I need to allow myself to go down a gear sometimes; but when I can I can go up a gear! It’s not failure it’s adjustment. I’m feeling good in the gym and can see progress especially in my arms. Having jo (@_ptjo_ ) with me through this time has been so supportive and she’s really helped me reframe so much, as well as pushing me to realise my potential. I’ve made some small changes to my work/ life balance which has helped massively as well. I’m feeling stronger mentally and physically in many ways. Looking forward to seeing what the summer brings. Maybe I’ll take a few photos/videos as well, who knows!

I’m going to try my best and not sound too hard on myself here because I have not done too badly these past few months. However, I’ve not been well the last few weeks for a few reasons and it’s been so annoying to have everything come to a halt. I’ve been thinking about what I want to achieve and I want to be lifting, building on my PBs, being in the gym, nutrition on point and maybe thinking about doing another comp. I want to be hitting my steps and my protein. It’s not that I’m not doing these things it’s just life gets in the way and consistency wanes. I know how to do this all at once; I’ve done it and I have proof on here! Any tips for getting out of a bit of a rut much welcome. I know I need to make space and time for me in order to get this to all succeed. Because one thing I am absolutely sure of is that I want to keep going and I want to improve on what I’ve built so far. I am not giving up no way!! November has been a bit of a turning point for me; more stability, normality and getting into a routine that is manageable for my circumstances. I’m really feeling on a roll at the moment and I’m really pleased with how I’m getting on. The new year will be very exciting I think but for now I’m sticking to what I am doing to fully embed these habits I’m building.

Is it Christmas yet? by @emilygettingstronger

The BEST thing I did for myself and my mental health and well-being was go to the gym. It’s cathartic to physically move as well as how good it feels to see yourself progress and defy all your initial doubts. It’s given me confidence and self assurance. The gym has been a place that has totally changed my life for the better.

Haven’t done one of these for ages, weekly roundup! Also just another excuse to look back on my comp 😂 a good week all in all, after being ill it’s given me the kick I needed to get back to eating nutritious foods and moving a bit more. First session post comp today at semi private, which was great and got to practice my pull ups one last time this block. Hoping next week will be same with lots of steps walked, good food eaten and a gym session too.

New 70kg squat PB from the competition! Still riding high after yesterday and the amazing day I had with 2 PBs!! I am so pleased I discovered strength training and even more so that this year I took a chance and entered these competitions. I know a younger version of me would have been too shy or nervous to even think about doing this. I am loving who I am becoming in my 40’s and there is only more to come! Just watch and see 💪
