So, I went one eyed to a fabulous party. I said to the face paint artist ‘no flowers please’. I didn’t mention the two eye surgeries. She took one look at me. She painted this. by @emilynclaid

Eclipse
I’ve been quiet for a while. My summer has been a bit of a catastrophe. While I was collaborating with #frithajenkins at The Place, during our Choreodrome residency, , the retina in my left eye detached. It was the day of the eclipse.
As a retina peels away, blackness /blindness creeps up like a moon until it moves across the iris, at which point you lose your sight. Waiting hours in A&E I watched my private eclipse happening.
Apparently, a retina must be reattached within three days, or sight can be lost permanently. I was lucky and 36 hours later I had emergency surgery at St Thomas Hospital. Then, unfortunately, my retina detached again, and I underwent a repeat of the entire surgical procedure two weeks later.
After the second surgery I was ordered to ‘posture’, so that the gas bubble, inserted into my eye, could do its work of fusing the retina into place. This meant lying on my right side, and only my right side, 24 hours a day for a week. Ten-minute breaks on the hour to do necessary tasks. I set the alarm for one hour, then for ten minutes, repeatedly, for 7 days, and I was committed and dedicated to this project. A challenging experience and enlightening in terms of how my body adjusted time and energy, to get through.
At the end of the week a dear friend drove me to Winchelsea Sands, and here I am posturing sideways on the beach. The following few images were taken from my sideways position at home.
My retina is now holding, and in four weeks the gas bubble will dissolve and I will hopefully have sight again in my left eye. Until then, I have bought some colourful eye patches …
I will be back in the world soon, love to all

Thankyou NHS and all the staff at St. Thomas’s eye department.#nhs by @emilynclaid

Times: 10am -12.30pm

£200 for 5 sessions.
£50 per session.
Participants are invited to sign up for all sessions to gain the most from the practices.

These movement sessions are grounded in a somatic approach to being alive in the world, sensing, thinking, feeling and moving.

Over five sessions we work with movement scores based in Fundamental Developmental Movements; Letting go of Things; Relational Play and Moving to Music. Through the practice we gain deeper understanding of how to support ourselves to be present with otherness and creativity.

While care is given to emerging concerns, this is not a therapy group, nor is this dance therapy. These are movement sessions for participants, with time provided to discuss how their experience might impact on work with clients.

With an extensive background in dance, emilyn has spent 15 years interweaving choreography, performance and Gestalt psychotherapy. The sessions draw from these three fields of practice.

Wear comfortable clothing for movement that includes lying on the floor. Bare feet or socks.

‘What distinguishes emilyn’s practice is its foundation in a disciplined and sophisticated embodied philosophy. This depth of inquiry allowed us, as practitioners, to explore the edges of our own work and to reconsider how we listen, perceive, and respond, both creatively and therapeutically. The workshop operated not only as a learning experience but as a site of research, where artistic process and experiential knowledge were meaningfully integrated’. (Billy Desmond, Gestalt Institute Ireland)

Help us give a warm welcome to @emilynclaid, who joins us as a Somerset House Studios artist.

Immersed in live art and choreographic practices, emilyn claid works within intergenerational queer contexts, performing, collaborating, making performance.

Alongside this, she facilitates workshops, encouraging the raw uncertainty of relational performative presence that underlies her current interests in artistic practice. by @emilynclaid

Dyke Just Do It at SW3G Glasgow.

Such a pleasure to work with Sweatmother @sweatmother again on Dyke Just Do It, performing alongside him and Mirabelle Haddon, @mirabellehaddon and working with Eve Stainton, @evestainton Alex MIsik, @makesmisick Sara Sassanelli, @sara.sassanelli Laura Fisher @criphipsugartits and all collaborators at SW3G. @swg3glasgow Wild raw performances, cool audiences. I enjoyed the gig, even though it included walking up and down 5 flights of stairs, dancing on cold concrete floors, no café at the venue, and spending hours on national rail. All good, and a privilege to be doing this in my 8th decade, cranking up the androgynous masc. desire in performance - life force. Music Planningtorock by @emilynclaid

I have been waiting, hibernating, while my body adjusts its relationship with my new ankle. They are still sussing each other out, and not entirely happy. However, life speeds on and I’ve gotta get back to work, out here in the world. I am so grateful to everybody who collaborates with me to make these events happen.

Dates added! ROUND 2 - 8-12 July. Link in bio!

cruising and performance: power, pleasure, gender 🔥

Facilitated by emilyn claid, this 5 day intensive workshop looks at the physicalities of power, pleasure, seduction, ambiguity, cool, desire, femininity, masculinity and androgyny.

Rooted in @emilynclaid's extensive experience of choreography and performance, we'll explore cruising as relational presence and the performance of seduction.

This is for those who want to move and perform, who want to play with gender and experiment with embodied expressions of power and pleasure, and who embrace queerness as a practice.

Peckham (London), £300/£250. Tickets available now (link in bio) - registration deadline 1 May (but probably it will fill up before then!). Payment plans available.
