Next week with Independent Dance: Kathy Crick and emilyn claid join us for Morning Class 🌟⁠ ⁠ 📆 18 – 22 May, 10am–12pm⁠ 📍 Siobhan Davies Studios⁠ 🎟️ £10 or £8 with a class card ⁠ 🔗 Book in advance via our website, link in bio⁠ ⁠ Kathy joins us on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Her classes support and enliven the felt sense of movement experience in order to reveal and resource energy and creativity. They are variously framed through physical tasks, engagement with anatomical and other imagery and exploration of qualities of touch, towards cultivating states and structures for moving together.⁠ ⁠ On Wednesday and Thursday, emilyn invites you to draw upon fundamental developmental movements of yield, push, reach, grasp, pull and release in relation to gravity and ground. Working with this practice as self and environmental support, participants engage in improvisational scores, working with each other to develop presence and creativity through relational impact and meetings with difference.⁠ ⁠ Morning Class is for all those who Drop into one class, or join us for the full week! Link in bio! cruising and performance: power, pleasure, gender 🔥 Facilitated by emilyn claid, this 5 day intensive workshop looks at the physicalities of power, pleasure, seduction, ambiguity, cool, desire, femininity, masculinity and androgyny. Rooted in @emilynclaid's extensive experience of choreography and performance, we'll explore cruising as relational presence and the performance of seduction. This is for those who want to move and perform, who want to play with gender and experiment with embodied expressions of power and pleasure, and who embrace queerness as a practice. 🔎 For the Investigative module, run as a five-week intensive, part of the MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional programme, will be led by emilyn claid for the academic year 25/26. ⁠ ⁠ emilyn shares:⁠ ⁠ "This opportunity, to be Lead Artist for the MA/MFA Creative Practice at Independent Dance, follows a wildly artistic period of performing, making and writing. I am curious to open and hold a space, to share and investigate emerging choreographic performance ideas around themes of queering, letting go and absurdity. Processes that engage with movement improvisation scores, relational dynamics, presence/absence, written and spoken texts, visual image, collaboration, and humour. Live art performer Martin O’Brien’s words seem relevant right now when he says: “don’t make work that you can’t laugh about” (Ceremony festival April 2025).
