My happy place ✨

So long as there’s no major mishaps I find winding yarn relaxing. It’s rhythmic and mesmerising, and if you have a handmade swift then a little squeaky, too 😂

One of my favourite things is watching how the colours shift through hand dyed skeins as they’re wound
There’s a uniqueness to each skein, even from the same batch, that makes hand dyed so special and it’s fun to see how each emerges.
I let the cake of yarn indicate how I should utilise it, e.g. a skein was more saturated on the inside of the cake than the outside and so I used that to my advantage, knowing it would create an ombre effect

I love the problem solving of knitting which is why you’ll often find me buying yarn without a pattern or a plan lol… and hand dyed yarn is just SO pretty how am I meant to resist‽

✨Pattern Release✨

The Hexadecagon pattern update is now LIVE! It includes two versions, two bind offs, and written AND charted lace instructions 🤩

Whoooo!! I did it! I have been working away in the background for the past couple of weeks, being derailed by depression/anxiety/chickens, Word documents, etc. 😂

I meant to update this pattern a little while ago, but given the way the world has been I think we can all be forgiven for not doing things when planned, aye? Instead I am celebrating the proud achievement of having finally gotten here, where I want to be.

Links to Ravelry and Payhip (that’s right, I got a Payhip!!) in my bio 😘

My samples were knit using @yeahyeahyarn Angel Lace yarn that I highly recommend (it is shockingly soft!)

I’m going to go crawl into bed and cry from anxiety and happiness 😅, knit, and catch up on Only Murders in The Building now…

Happy knitting, everyone!

✨Baby Brioche✨

Being an Aunty is the BEST. I won’t list everything good, there’s simply too much, but knitting is definitely one of them!
I knit this baby cardigan earlier in the year, and was yearning for the squish of brioche (as always).
I disrespected a perfectly fine pattern by using the wrong weight yarn, wrong size needles, and more 😅 I have a habit of making the pattern fit me, not the other way around, but it’s had a reasonable success rate so I’m not gonna stop anytime soon
I hope I haven’t jinxed myself and that this cardigan fits 🤞

Happy Spooky season!!

That’s right, I have some cute and creepy stitch markers releasing TONIGHT at 6pm 🎃

Halloween is my favourite and I celebrate every year with something fitting. One year I watched a horror movie every day (I think I permanently changed my brain chemistry), and this year I’m STOKED to be celebrating with stitch markers. That I made. That I want to keep for myself but will relent 🤭

What are some of your favourite ways to celebrate? A spooky KAL, scary movies with friends, or costume parties perhaps? However you choose I hope it’s a blast

I hope these bring a tiny bit of joy in an otherwise heavy time, and that you love them as much as I do 💕

See y’all tonight 🤞

✨ Big Rib Sweater ✨

I knit this twice 🤭 First time was with one strand of yarn, I made it all the way to the end and wondered why I had so much left over… then remembered I had planned to use double strands. Whoops. So I frogged it (after wearing it a couple of times for good measure) and started again with the yarn DOUBLED and the correct GAUGE. Finally, success

This pattern is fun to knit, and the details are really clean. I mean, can we get some love for the underarm shaping? That is a sexy underarm!!
I modified the pattern by knitting the front longer so that the neck doesn’t ride as high in the back. This meant I knit the sleeves a size larger, but some extra decreases made it work out just fine (and totally worth it, the fit is 10/10)

Pattern: #bigribsweater by Jessie Maed Designs
Yarn is a personal fave: Abbey Road The Wind Cries Merino - it’s so light and cosy I loveeee it 💕
Label is @insidevoiceslabels and very fitting for me 🤭

✨Stitch Markers✨

Wahoo! A small drop of some teeny treasures has just landed! Found where they usually are 😉

Tiny doors are back! They are my favourite to make because I love imagining what stories they hold. Is it mysterious and full of secrets, or welcoming and cosy?

Also two new worms have joined the group! Blue glow worms inspired by NZs own glow worm caves (I’ve only been to Te Anau), and Mime worms that demanded to be created. I don’t have an answer to why, but they did make me consider ‘silent arts’ and how far they spread. There’s something to be said for communicating and creating with your hands and body, not your voice. Knitters have famously done this for years; it reminded me of WW2 when they hid secret codes and used knitting as an innocent front for spies. You probably wouldn’t be a mime if you’re a spy, but I enjoyed thinking about the quiet connections nonetheless

P.s. the worms come with a jump ring because they are long (great for measuring an approximate inch though!), so if you’d like a lobster clasp included just let me know. I’m more than happy to do so 💕

I’m still knitting slowly, if you don’t know already I have cubital tunnel syndrome which leaves me with intense nerve pain. So I have 5 rounds of twisted rib left on the bottom of my sweater before I start on the sleeves, and it has taken days so far 😅 better than nothing though!
I hope all your projects are going well, don’t forget to stretch ✨

Flower Power!
I needed a cute new hot water bottle cover so I adapted a chart I found online and voila ✨

I’ve included the chart repeat if anyone wants to use it, there’s long floats so I used the ladder back jacquard technique. Hottie covers are the perfect way to practice something new (and now I know I’ll never knit a jumper with long floats lol)

Quick details: 8ply yarn
3mm needles for ribbing 4mm needles for body
72sts for the body, decreased to 44sts for the neck

Hope you’re all keeping cosy! And if it’s summer for you then COOL, how nice for you 🤭 by @eminent_knits

First fit check since splitting for the sleeves and it’s looking good

This is my Dead Of Night Sweater, the yoke didn’t take long but the body is growing slowly. I’m knitting with thrifted yarn (brown, from a cardigan I took apart) and some wonderful hand-dyed yarn from Australia
I added short row shaping to the back neck, but otherwise I’m actually following the pattern for once 💪

It’s been a little while since I last had stitch markers available 🔥

Life got a bit heavy for a time, but I’ve slowly found my way back to creating and I’d forgotten how much I enjoy it. Making these has brought me joy again and I’m excited to share them with you!

This new batch is full of tiny cute charms made from polymer clay and resin. There are little strawberries, wiggly worms, and a mix of other fun designs (peep the cursed Furby), each made by hand

Thank you for sticking around, and I hope these bring a little happiness to your projects. Feel free to tell me which is your fave 🍓🪱

This jumper is aptly named The Classic, my latest staple piece.

I love knitting. However, I’ve had a problem of choosing projects that are interesting to make but not so easy to incorporate into my everyday wardrobe. This year I took a step back and focussed on pieces that would work well for years to come.

So… I only knit two garments in 2025 and this is one of them 😅 I’m stoked though, I found some mohair (I suspect fake) yarn at the thrift store and it was an almost perfect match for this wool! Now to wait impatiently for Winter to come

I modified the pattern to have twisted rib columns down the sleeves which I later found out is similar to their Paloma pattern 🤗 A pool noodle was my secrets weapon when it came to blocking the sleeves

Pattern: The Classic by Espace Tricot
Yarn: Bella Baby Bliss merino 4ply in Denim
