POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi 👋

Been a long time. Let me tell you to all the 2 people who will see this post…. Once I had my son I had a hard freaking time with postpartum depression, then launched into working full time, and life- in general- has been hard and it has not been my season.

I have kept on reading…. Maybe social media was a phased but reading was not! I just am the audiobook queen lately with my 1 hr commute to work. I most recently finished Dolly All The Time and I’m hoping to get back to doing reviews and all that soon.

All that to say I might just expand what I post here so that I feel like I have things to post. I miss all my North Carolina people and my book people.

Someone tell me what they’ve been up to? 🙂 by @emmaalwaysreads

Just a quick coffee & currently reading

I did in fact get every single #BOTM option this month, and I’ve already whizzed through Dinner For Vampires by Bethany Joy Lenz (and gave it 5 stars- it muscled its way into my top 3 celebrity memoirs), and now I’ve moved onto Dirty Diana.

Last night I finished The Most- a novella by Jessica Anthony that was quick and incredibly good.

Lately I’ve been in the mood for nonfiction and lit fic. Anything else has felt like a bit of a chore. What’s your current favorite genre? Let me know in the comments!

Book Review
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I find what gives me pleasure and I do it until it gives me pain,” she said. “Every time.”

Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors met all my expectations since Cleopatra and Frankenstein is one of my favorite books of all time.

In the novel, the three remaining Blue sisters come together, and also apart, in the wake of their sister, Nicky’s, death. Each sister was a portrait of classic birth order, but with tragedy and sentimentality propelling most of their (bad) choices.

I think to enjoy this book you will need to enjoy the beauty in the depths of matters of the heart… Otherwise, I think this book may come off as three women who could not have been more dramatic if they tried. But it’s not! It’s art! Luckily, I’m a sucker for the overdramatic and the melancholy, and Mellors DELIVERED with this one. Impeccable and BEAUTIFUL writing, and loveable/hateable/but memorable characters. It’s explored love in a way different than romance, but as true and enduring. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Is this one on your TBR? Was it your BOTM pick?

Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just For the Summer by Abby Jimenez ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Homebody Rupi Kaur ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Guncle by Steven Rowley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han ⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han ⭐️⭐️
Well Always Have Summer by Jenny Han ⭐️⭐️

My favorite is a hard toss up between any of the Part of Your World Series and The Guncle. What was yours?

Currently Reading 📚

Just a quick little post to show off what I’m reading right now. This cover is just perfection! I’m loving the story so far. Next up is Count Your Lucky Stars- I started it, but two romances at once is too much for my brain to keep track of.

What are you reading right now? I need to update my Amazon wishlist with some fresh ideas just in case Mr. Bookstagram wants to buy me presents while he’s deployed…. *cough cough* 😉

Good morning ☀️

This past week I finished The Summer I Turned Pretty Series. This is such a popular series, and although I’ve never read To All The Boys Ive Loved Before, I did think the Netflix movie was super cute. I had high hopes for these books, but for me…. They fell flat.

If I was 14 maybe I would have loved them, but as I am 31 years old with children and a mortgage I just could not care about Belly and the “which brother do I choose???” Conundrum that lasted the three books.

Book # 1, I gave it 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. It was cute, easy to read, it was generally fine.

Book #2, ⭐️⭐️ Too much brooding teenage boy for me

Book #3, ⭐️⭐️ So dramatic it hurt

This popular series was just not for me, unfortunately. Although YA hardly ever is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you watched the show? Was it better than the books? Please tell me it was hahaha

This week I read all three of these books, and therefore it was a good week.

A five star rating for all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fun fact, I worked in health care before I had littles (and I’ll be going back) so any hospital/nursing/doctor romance is usually a win for me.

If I had to pick my favorite from these ones? It would be hard, but I did particularly LOVE Just For The Summer. This was also my second time reading Yours Truly, and I loved it even more the second time around. When I first read it, I didn’t realize it was a part of a series… so whoops! A lot more made sense this time, haha.

Have you ever accidentally read a series out of order or am I just special? 🙈

Book Review

The Husbands
By Holly Gramazio
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was so much fun! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Lauren comes home one night to her flat and is greeted by her husband, Micheal. Except that, she doesn’t actually have a husband…. Confusion! When he goes up into the attic and down comes a different husband than Micheal, she realizes that her attic is some sort of husband creating magical vortex, and that she has the power to send them packing if she doesn’t like them. And then she has to figure out how to keep them out of the attic if she does!

This book explores contentment, modern relationships and dating, and the impacts other people have on you. I thought it was a really fun story, and I was laughing out loud through most of it. I recommend this book a thousand times over. Dare I say, it’s a perfect book club pick?

June BOTM 📚

The time of the month to add more books onto my physical TBR has come. 😂 This month had such solid picks. I felt like only getting three was exhibiting such good self control, haha.

I grabbed:
💖 The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
💰 Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufus Thorpe
❤️ The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali

All of them have over 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews on goodreads. That’s promising to me!

What books did you grab this month with your #BOTM subscription?

June TBR

This month we have a Disney trip, so who the hell do I think I am wanting to read Priory of the Orange Tree and having time, but a girl has goals, alright.

I’m close to wrapping up divine rivals, and also the Husbands which got left out of the photo. The rest are all highly anticipated reads for me that I’m hoping to get around to ASAP

Series Review: Beartown by Fredrick Backman

I don’t even know how to put into words all that this series made me feel. Backman writes his characters so masterfully, and weaves them into the larger story so subtly yet obviously…. I seriously don’t know how to explain it.

The books are heavy, the subject matter is tough, but I think that they’re tackled perfectly. It’s about so much more than hockey…. It’s about rape, sexism, toxic masculinity, homophobia, politics, and small town loyalty. Never have I oscillated so much between crying and laughing, then SOBBING, then cracking up. Truly these books are tremendous.

Now, for individual ratings!
Beartown ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Us Against You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Winners ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I would gladly re read Us Against You, but I don’t think my heart could handle reading Beartown and especially the Winners again 😭😭😭 They were just too damn sad haha.

Read this series if you like books that:
🏒Have a small town setting
⛸️center around sports
🥅cover tough topics
🐻have characters you will fall in love with
