During my second trip to the occupied West Bank, while overlooking the Tulkarm refugee camp, one of the questions I kept wrestling with wasn’t political, it was moral. Bob Dylan captured it when he wrote With God on Our Side: what happens when people become so convinced their cause is righteous that they stop questioning the cost? That idea felt impossible to ignore after witnessing the dire conditions Palestinians are living in, and the reality of life under occupation in the West Bank.

Over the past week, I spoke with families who were displaced by the Israeli military, children growing up with raids, checkpoints, Israeli settlers, Christian communities under attack, and people whose lives have been shaped by decades of conflict. I left with far more questions than certainty.

As a journalist, my job isn’t to tell you what to think. It’s to bring you as close as possible to the people living this reality, to let them tell their own stories, even when those stories challenge our assumptions, our politics, or our own country’s role in the conflict.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing the reporting, interviews, and a documentary from this trip. I hope you’ll follow along and come to your own conclusions.

Sometimes journalism isn’t about finding the answers.

It’s about refusing to look away.

A huge thank you to the team who helped me get back to the West Bank and continue to document the situation Americans are largely unaware of. taken in West Bank, Palestine by @emmawithrow

Swipe to see the before. Israeli settlers destroyed a 78 year old American man’s cars and home in the village of Turmosayya. This hit especially hard because just a few months prior I was at his house, conducting interviews about the settler outpost nearby. I asked him to snap these photos of Yaser, Jenan, and me because I loved the car so much, and thought it was so neat. Everything beautiful in the occupied West Bank seems to eventually be stomped on by the feet of settlers. taken in فلسطين - Palestine by @emmawithrow
