Our Durham School Construction Management students are making headlines in the Lincoln Journal Star! 🙌

Led by Assistant Professor of Practice Emmeline Watson, students turned a campus maintenance challenge into a hands-on learning opportunity right outside Kiewit Hall! 🏗️🧱

With support from @watkinsconcreteblock, they are transforming the space with pavers featuring Nebraska’s iconic “N.” ❤️🌽

This is a reminder to myself, my girls, and all the girls out there: we do hard things, we can do hard things, and we are pretty badass. 5 Years… which somehow feels like 20-some days. ❤️

I never knew I’d love doing something this much. I LOVE teaching. I love my students, the exchange, the energy they give me, watching them grow, and seeing them do amazing things.

Somehow, they teach me just as much as I teach them.

I truly can’t see myself doing anything else. ❤️

And I can’t wait to celebrate 20 years for real someday. 🥹 by @emmelinelemos

We "kidnapped" the freshmen today!
When I first told my senior girls about my crazy idea to “kidnap” the freshman girls, they were immediately ALL IN. Blindfolded, hanging out, food and bedazzling hammers 💎🔨✨
We may be less than 10% of our program, but we are definitely a small but mighty group of girls.
I just love seeing our seniors loving on the freshmen, getting to know them, and making sure they know they have a group of girls here cheering them on.
Huge thank you to Prof. Roebuck for letting us interrupt class for a little kidnapping 😂 and Prof. @barrows_matthew for ALWAYS being up for my shenanigans and supporting our students.
And @Mortenson and @Kiewit — thank you for always showing up for our students and helping make these crazy ideas happen.
Pretty sure this needs to become a tradition.

Happy birthday to the love of my life and my favorite human. @beachedseadog

You are truly one of a kind. Your sense of justice, your honesty, your dedication to serving others, and the way you work so hard to keep the public and our family safe are just a few of the reasons I admire you so much. You carry so much on your shoulders and still somehow manage to love us so deeply and so well.

I love your goofy laugh at the silliest videos, your facial expressions that make me laugh without you even trying, your huge heart for animals, and the way you always show up for us. You are strong, loyal, selfless, and rare in the best possible way.

Another year that I don’t get to spend your birthday beside you, but my heart is absolutely there with you today. I feel beyond blessed every single day that I get to walk through life by your side.

I always dreamed of being a mom, and it’s been one of the most rewarding — and hardest — jobs of my life. My girls completed me, but they also changed me. I thought I had life figured out before they came along… I was wrong.

They made me grow in ways I never thought possible and gave me a strength I didn’t know I had. It feels like a new version of me was born after each of them. And I would move mountains, cross oceans, and do whatever it takes to help make their dreams come true and make them proud.

There’s nothing perfect about motherhood, but one thing my girls will never doubt is how deeply and unconditionally they are loved. No matter how tall they get, I’ll always squeeze them tight, hold them close, and carry them for as long as I physically can.

I hope we never stop dancing in the kitchen, singing too loud, laughing until we cry, and remembering that you got your moves from momma.

Still can’t believe this one…

PR at the Lincoln Marathon, course PR AND Top 10 in my age group. A few years ago, this wasn’t even on my radar.

But honestly… what made this day so special was my students. @taimedina , @ashley.garrard , @rhylee_mj , @fatimaaa.cpsolis and Miriam. I’ve been running and training with them, and they just completed their FIRST half marathon—and they crushed it. I’m so, so proud of them!!!

And shoutout to my amazing, fast friend @runningfasterasamaster for getting freaking FIRST in her age group!!! Unreal.

What people don’t see, outside the perfect Instagram life… my body and mind were tired. Coming off a full week of 20,000+ steps a day, (in steel toe boots), I was not exactly feeling “race ready.”

During the race I kept thinking… this is hard. Heart rate through the roof. Tummy a little angry. And not gonna lie—I definitely had a few moments where I thought, “walking would be great right now” haha.

But @billy_sawyer_tri_coach had a plan (in all honesty, he has way more faith in me than I have in myself), and I did my best to trust it and execute—even if I came up just a little short of what we were aiming for.
Now that life is a little less chaotic, I’m ready to get back to the grind. My favorite training season is just starting! Head down. Do the work.
