Grandpa may not get to attend my wedding, but he attended my softball games. Grandpa may not be there to give me advice anymore, but I gained so much wisdom from him. Grandpa may not be there to greet us at the door anymore, but he gave us a tradition that will go on for generations. We will wave goodbye to our own children and grandchildren. We will watch them pull out the driveway and wave goodbye from the porch or the window. We will hug and kiss every single person hello and goodbye for centuries to come, we will tell our babies to not speed on the road and watch out for the dummies. We will crinkle our cans as a cue for the kids to grab us another one.

Grandpa isn’t here physically, but gosh is he everywhere all at once, in every single one of us. That’s what makes being with family feel so healing, is because we all had a unique but fond and deep bond with him… so when we’re all together, it’s like he’s there too.
