I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we understand what we’re seeing in the therapy room.

Is it parts in conflict? (IFS)
Memory networks shaped by the past? (EMDR)
A nervous system responding to threat? Polyvagal Theory)
Or something happening in the space between us?

Each of these clinicians brings a different way of making sense of that question.

What I’ve been appreciating more and more is that these frameworks don’t have to compete with one another. Instead, they can deepen our understanding when we hold them together.

This upcoming livestream will be a space to explore these perspectives in real time.

If this kind of conversation resonates with you, I’d love for you to join us.

This is the kind of space we’ve been creating in our livestreams.

A place to slow down, reflect, and explore how healing actually happens.

For our next conversation, we’ll be bringing together voices from the IFS-informed EMDR community to explore different frameworks we could add to this work. We continue to appreciate how different perspectives can come together in real time.

If this resonates, I’d love for you to join us.

Love is slowing down.
Love is being present.

But what happens when fear is what we’re actually feeling?

Just released a new episode with Bryan Post.

We explore a powerful idea:
that all behavior arises from stress, and underneath that stress is either fear or love.

We spoke about how healing is love, because fear and love cannot be felt together.

If you’re interested in trauma, healing, and how we show up with others, this episode will really resonate with you!

I had such a meaningful conversation with Sarah Cameron on the podcast.

Sarah brings a depth to Motivational Interviewing that goes far beyond technique. She speaks about MI as something we don’t just do, but something we become.

We explored the spirit of PACE, partnership, acceptance, compassion, and evocation, and how these qualities have the power to transform not just our clinical work, but the way we show up in our lives.

One of the things that stayed with me most was our reflection on how this spirit is not a checklist. It is not something we perform, but rather, something we embody. When we are grounded in curiosity and truly seeking to understand another person’s perspective, the conversation becomes alive!

I am really grateful for Sarah’s voice in this field, and for the way her work expands MI and connecting with others in a compassionate way.

You can learn more about her work at amigallc.com and ignitingchangeco.com.

There is a space that forms between people in therapy.

Sometimes it feels open, grounded, and alive.
And sometimes something shifts, and it becomes harder to stay present, to connect, or even to feel.

We often focus on what we do in therapy, but not enough on the space we create.

What shapes that space?

How is it affected by race, power, and lived experience?

What happens when parts of us cannot fully enter the room?

How do we stay attuned when dissociation is present?

This is not a "techniques" conversation (that will be in the following months).
This conversation is about the conditions that allow healing to emerge.

Join us for a live panel exploring the deeper frameworks that shape IFS-informed EMDR.

You’re very welcome to join us.

Today feels like a really special day.

I want to take a moment to celebrate Soulla Demetriou and the release of her new book, You Have Always Been Enough. Congratulations, Soulla! This is such a meaningful offering.

With everything going on in this world right now, thinking about how we are "enough" feels so powerful and universal. I really appreciate you and your gentle reminder of how self-compassion can begin to shift our sense of worth from the inside out.

If this resonates with you, I really encourage you to check out her book and her work. by @empowered.through.compassion

This episode captures such a meaningful and rich conversation.

I feel really grateful to everyone who joined us live for this conversation. And I feel deep appreciation towards the incredible people who were part of it with me.

Thank you:

Bruce Hersey
Annabel McGoldrick
Michelle Richardson
Peggy Kolodny
Zandra Bamford
and my wife, Heather, for co-creating this space together

We explored what it means to bring IFS and EMDR together in a way that is not rigid or formulaic, but alive, relational, and responsive to the person in front of us.

We discussed the foundation, the first two sections of the new book IFS informed EMDR: Creative and Collaborative Approaches.

The podcast episode is now available if you would like to listen to the full conversation here:

Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 12:00 EST, we’ll be gathering for a live conversation on IFS-informed EMDR.

Some of the questions I hear most often are:

How do we combine IFS and EMDR?
When do we use each model?
Is there a systematic way to integrate the two?

When we bring these approaches together intentionally, something begins to shift.

We move from using strategies
to creating an experience

This can change the pace, increase safety within both models, and open new pathways for healing.

This livestream will be a space to explore these ideas together, with contributors from the opening chapters of IFS Informed EMDR: Creative and Collaborative Approaches.

If this resonates with you, I would really love to have you there.

There’s something about this time of year that invites reflection.

For many, Easter carries themes of renewal and the possibility of something new emerging.

For others, Passover speaks to something just as powerful… the movement from constriction toward freedom.

To me, both of these connect deeply to the work we do in EMDR.

EMDR supports the processing of experiences that feel stuck in our system, allowing something new to emerge.

As I’ve deepened my work, IFS has added another layer of awareness:

Which part are we working with?
And who else is here with us?

We are no longer just processing a memory
We are turning toward the parts of us that carry it

We slow down
We begin to build relationship

And something begins to change

A part that once felt alone
Begins to feel the warmth of companionship

This is where healing begins

We will be exploring this, and more, together in our livestream on Tuesday at 12:00 EST

If this resonates with you, I would really love to have you there

There is a shift that happens in EMDR when we bring in IFS.

We are no longer trying to work with the whole system at once. We begin to ask a different question:

"Which part are we working with right now?"

When we slow down enough to notice this
The process becomes more collaborative, more attuned. We are no longer pushing toward processing. We are building relationship with the part that is holding the experience. And something begins to change.

A part that once felt alone, begins to feel seen.

This upcoming livestream is a space to explore this more deeply and to connect around the work in IFS Informed EMDR: Creative and Collaborative Approaches

We are less than a week away, and I would love to have you there!

There is something powerful that happens when clinicians come together not to teach, but to explore.

Each of us holds a different doorway into this work.
Different experiences and language. Diverse ways to understand healing.

And yet, there is something shared underneath it all.

We all share a commitment to presence, and a respect for complexity.
A belief that healing happens in relationship.

This conversation brings together voices who are each doing this work in their own way. And at the same time staying rooted to connection and compassion.

This will not be a lecture, but instead, a community space to think and share together.

If this resonates, we would love to have you join us.

We often think of pain as something we feel.
But in my experience, something much deeper happens.
When connection breaks, our systems reorganize.
Parts of us step in, trying to protect and make sense of what happened. They want to get us back to safety in whatever way they can. Over time, we can begin to live inside the stories those parts carry.
And sometimes, without even realizing it, we can start to feel trapped inside them.
These stories begin to define our reality. Who we are and how we see others. It even defines what we believe is possible.
What I have come to believe is that healing is not about forcing those stories to change.
It is about creating enough safety, internally and relationally, so that those stories can begin to soften and come alive. As they do, there is more space, more movement, and the possibility of reconnecting with ourselves and with others.
So that we can begin to feel like ourselves again.
This is something I’ve been exploring deeply in my clinical work, and in the integration of IFS and EMDR.
We’ll be continuing this conversation in an upcoming livestream with several contributors to IFS Informed EMDR: Creative and Collaborative Approaches.
If this resonates, I’d love for you to join us.
