We're changing up Fridays. We want this to feel as much like a hangout as a dance floor. The lights will be a little brighter and the music a little lower, and we're adding more seating, so you can catch up with friends, meet new people, and still dance whenever the mood hits.

The music
Asian pop dance mixes: K-pop and way beyond, with C-pop, J-pop, Thai pop, vinahouse and more.

Throwbacks, dance mixes, and early 2000 emo mixes to scream along to, eyeliner optional.

Music: @empty_visions1 @p41dz
Gogo: @wwyattwebb

Second floor of @ritznewyork
Oct 2nd
10pm - 2am

Special guest: @rob.trinh @writewithrt
We're excited to host author Rob Trinh for his memoir Getting Dirty and Coming Clean. A raw, unfiltered story of queer Asian identity, ambition, nightlife, survival, and finding your way back to yourself. Come hear the story, connect with community, and see yourself reflected in a life that refuses to be neatly packaged. Meet Rob, hear about the book, and a chance to win a signed copy.

This summer I finally understood what makes NYC summer so special: the feeling of possibility as you walk down a street full of people looking for some things quite like you—community, art, a bite to eat, a bathroom—and something maybe a bit different.

Though perhaps in a sense, all true cities have this? I think of Virginia Woolf’s opening lines to Mrs. Dalloway: “What a lark! What a plunge! And everywhere, though it was still so early, there was a beating, a stirring of galloping ponies, tapping of cricket bats; Lords, Ascot, Ranelagh and all the rest of it; wrapped in the soft mesh of the grey-blue morning air, which, as the day wore on, would unwind them, and set down on their lawns and pitches the bouncing ponies, whose forefeet just struck the ground and up they sprung, the whirling young men, and laughing girls in their transparent muslins who, even now, after dancing all night, were taking their absurd woolly dogs for a run.”

Three years can make quite a difference. I’ve been building routines and healthy habits in those years. Discipline is everything. I’m only getting started tho. by @empty_visions1

Returning to Fire Island a year older, I felt myself growing into the spaces my friends and I had created—running to catch up with the level of kindness and maturity I was surrounded by and yet also fully cognizant of my own growth and change over the last few years. The life I have now is one unimaginable to me before. It is also tender and fragile—all things are of the nature to change. I have long known this, and sought to ensure all the ways I change are for the better. Simultaneously, is this not itself grasping? Trying to grasp towards a future self just out of reach, one who is kinder, sexier, more caring, more full of social grace? The peace I felt in my friends and accepting where I am now—with all of my fears, loves, attachments, and desires—was what healed me. taken in Fire Island Pines by @empty_visions1

June was for spending time with some of my favorite people. I didn’t take very many pics because I was in the moment, trying to clear my mind and body and make way for new joys and new adventures. I feel ready for what’s next. by @empty_visions1

when Wire and Movement were over, i felt more confident in my ability to move through the world of techno. I felt gratitude for the community that has made techno what it is—even as Black and brown queer and trans people have witnessed techno culture commodified and sold back to a hedonistic market, they have made underground spaces of escape and fugitivity that can’t be stolen. That is why we party—to experience art as an attempt at liberatory upheaval through the spaces we create together. To create, for a weekend, a radically different world. That creation can be at turns dangerous and thrilling—it is not necessarily utopian, as terror, pathology, awe, and possibility often are intertwined in the sublime. but at its best, the dancefloor can be radical imagination made manifest. it was the people I got to share my time with at Movement festival that made it all worth it. It can be hard to make meaningful connections through partying, but getting to share meals, museum trips, and time together off the dancefloor made the time on the dancefloor all the more fun (2/3) by @empty_visions1

Going first to Wire Festival and then immediately to Movement the next week was a bit of a lark, but, like all nightlife, it was the risk that made it meaningful: the possibilities, chance encounters, new connections, and storytelling on the dancefloor that can only happen when you decide to let all of your attachments and preconceived notions fall away. In this way, it is a space with enormous potential to heal and to grow in. (1/3)
