5 reasons why you won’t leave early this thursday 😘
october 15th | @boyfriendcoop | 7pm-12am

empty visions is a DJ, saxophonist, and experimental music producer based in Brooklyn known for their hypnotic techno, tech house, and Asian pop music sets. Their set will be inspired by the ballroom scene, spinning sickening vocal samples and groovy riffs into a Chicago-style house set that will make even the butches boys feel like a fem queen.

DJ girlcrush is a multi-genre dance music selector known for dynamic, high-energy sets that move fluidly across house, techno, trance, and hyperpop. Rooted in femme and queer nightlife, she is committed to building community through music.

HEYFAYBAE is a Brooklyn based DJ known for her high energy performances. Rooted in hard house and drawing heat from techno, garage, and bass, her sound bridges gritty rave textures with lush club emotion, building into euphoric highs and heavy-hitting moments.

masha latte is a Ukraine-born, Brooklyn-based DJ, event producer, and the co-organizer behind QUEER PANIC! For this set she’s stepping away from her techno and hardgroove roots into trance builds, pop edits, and big instrumental lifts that turn the floor into one big group hug. It’s euphoric, and full of queer joy, intended to keep everyone dancing from the first track to the last.

Hailing from Ukraine and now based in Brooklyn, R-DNA is a techno DJ guided by a deep belief in the restorative power of electronic music. Moving between ambient, hypnotic, and minimal techno, experimenting with percussion and synth patterns, their sets help uncover and embrace something primal, across dancefloors where the communal and the deeply personal collapse into one.

We’re changing up Fridays. We want this to feel as much like a hangout as a dance floor. The lights will be a little brighter and the music a little lower, and we’re adding more seating, so you can catch up with friends, meet new people, and still dance whenever the mood hits.

The music
Asian pop dance mixes: K-pop and way beyond, with C-pop, J-pop, Thai pop, vinahouse and more.

Throwbacks, dance mixes, and early 2000 emo mixes to scream along to, eyeliner optional.

Music: @empty_visions1 @p41dz
Gogo: @wwyattwebb

Second floor of @ritznewyork
Oct 2nd
10pm - 2am

Special guest: @rob.trinh @writewithrt
We’re excited to host author Rob Trinh for his memoir Getting Dirty and Coming Clean. A raw, unfiltered story of queer Asian identity, ambition, nightlife, survival, and finding your way back to yourself. Come hear the story, connect with community, and see yourself reflected in a life that refuses to be neatly packaged. Meet Rob, hear about the book, and a chance to win a signed copy.

Some tips for the best open decks experience you can have:

1. Listen to the other DJs!
2. Step away from the dance floor for extended phone use & long conversations like you would on a good dance floor
3. Let the music move you if you like it!

Tony (@empty_visions1) said the dancing just came to him while enjoying Illjypsy’s set last week (@illjypsy) during her Swallowed debut! What a magic moment, thank you both!!!

At Swallowed we choose spaces like Honey’s (@honeysbrooklyn) where there’s room away from the floor to catch up and take breaks from the music if it isn’t for you. But if it is your jam, let it show!!

Big up everyone who performed at the packed out first @opendecksforgaza on 9/2, not to mention everyone who helped out, danced, drew, mingled, and otherwise participated via your presence. Thanks to everyone who signed up for the DJ lottery - we wish we could have had you all on the decks, but 40 local DJs signed up and Rash *only* let us run for 9 hours, not 20. We love to see you all gathering for a cause and supporting each other. If you didn’t perform or participate this time, we want you to at the next edition! If you didn’t make it out this time, we’re exited to have you next time!

If you haven’t yet given to the benefit, it’s not too late to be a part of our first big donation to the extremely good cause of @mercybakery! Venmo @ scottlief, PayPal @ villondo, or give directly to Mercy Bakery’s Gaza Hot Meals & Baked Goods Initiative (link in bio)

Special shoutout to @explainsnothing and @rainbowtutudj for hosting; @wren1slullaby and @duriya.rochdi for running lights, sound, and fog all night long; @eliescobarnyc for donating a mind-blowing curveball of a special guest set; @pigeonmortician for working the packed bar solo and embracing all of our shenanigans; and @rash_nyc and its lovely staff for taking a chance on us by letting us host the first edition of our lil fundraiser party at their wonderful club

Tabling by the good people of @djsagainstapartheid and @queerabolitionistcollective! Vending by @embryannah, @darzbladi, @piece_ofquds, and @bhabhifromnewyork! Vegan cookies baked by @explainsnothing! Fresh dates foisted onto you by @rainbowtutudj!

Palestinian national anthem sung by @dj.habibz! Dance and musical performance by @cailinlofa! Original live music by @eliselilflower! Sets from 17 local DJs including Eli! Dancing by all of you! What a night 🥵😮‍💨

Let us know if you might like to work with us or pitch in for Open Decks for Gaza 2 👀

💖,
Clarissa and Scott
