Years ago I found a striking photo of my grandfather, (Papa Sydney), from his first visit to the State of Israel around 75 years ago. Although I had no idea where exactly this photograph was taken, the image always remained in my mind and inspired me to learn more about my family’s history and the history of our people. Today, with the help of my good friend @bauertrails, and his investigation into the photo, I was able to stand in the footsteps of my Papa, in the ruins of this 1,800 year old synagogue. What started as a normal vacation day in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, has escalated into an CARTEL v. ARMY war. Woke up to black smoke and large fires seen from our balcony, followed by gunfire and explosions. Chaos in the streets here, and surrounding areas, following the killing of ‘EL MENCHO,’ leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Waiting for the violence to subside, and hoping everyone here is staying safe, like us.

Yesterday, the world lost a great woman—Holocaust survivor and educator Rose Lipszyc, z”l.

Rose often reflected on her childhood growing up in Lublin and the warm memories she cherished of celebrating the holidays with family and loved ones. She carried those memories with her throughout her life, bringing them to her own holiday table as a way to pay tribute to, honour, and remember her loved ones who were murdered.

This Rosh Hashanah, we will carry you with us in our hearts and around our holiday tables—sharing the memories, wisdom, and lessons you taught us.

Your legacy will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to know you.

May her memory be for a blessing. by @emshoy

Stella (2011-2026) 🤍🐾

Almost 16 years ago, we brought Stella home and, like Cooper, she quickly became so much more than just another pet. She became part of the family in every sense of the word.

She was mischievous and happy-go-lucky, gentle and loving, and completely full of personality. She loved running in the park, swimming in the pool, any kind of treat, annoying Cooper and, later, bossing around Wallie, and not stop kisses. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family, and of course, with all the kids.

Stella faced more than her fair share of health challenges throughout her life, but somehow, through it all, she always remained Stella. Even as her body grew weaker over the last few years, her sweet, spirited personality never seemed to change.

She gave us unconditional love and countless memories. Thank you for nearly 16 wonderful years, sweet girl. You will always be a part of our family. #Dog #MansBestFriend #Stella taken in Toronto, Ontario by @emshoy

On display in our Liberation Gallery is Sydney Shoychet's original ticket to the appeal and final verdict in the trial of Adolf Eichmann, witnessed in Jerusalem on May 29, 1962.

A senior Nazi official responsible for organizing the deportation of millions of Jews to ghettos and extermination camps, Eichmann was captured in 1960 after fleeing to Argentina following the Second World War. His trial became a landmark moment in Holocaust history. Through powerful survivor testimony, it brought the experiences of Holocaust victims to the forefront, transforming public understanding of the Holocaust and highlighting the pursuit of justice in its aftermath.

Pictured with the ticket is Sydney's wife, Helen Shoychet, who visited the Museum last week. We are grateful to the Shoychet family for generously loaning this artifact, which will remain on display after our summer artifact rotation.

Visit the Toronto Holocaust Museum to experience the stories behind the artifacts that bring history to life. Stay tuned on our socials over the next couple of weeks while we highlight a selection of artifacts that are staying, leaving, and coming to the Museum this summer! by @emshoy

🇨🇦 This week, cities across Canada, including Toronto, are raising the Palestinian flag. Instead of standing up to intimidation and hate-filled demonstrations, Canadian leaders are rewarding the very groups that have flooded our streets with unrest. This is what Canada has become. #Canada #Toronto #Palestine #TheNorthRemembers #AmYisraelChai taken in Canada by @emshoy
