Nobody told me how awkward and damn right difficult it would be to write a big spiel all about myself 🙈 But I’ve finally gone and done it!

Thanks to my incredible and multi-talented friend @fuelednutrition_ , I now have a website 🤓

If you’d like to know more about me, what I do, and how I help people... it’s now live for all to see.

People are often unsure about this one, so here’s a little low-down....

👩🏼‍⚕️WHAT IS CLINICAL NUTRITION?

Clinical nutrition is a holistic approach to healthcare which focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and management of chronic disease using the four main pillars of health... nutrition, exercise, mindset and sleep.

👩🏼‍⚕️WHAT SETS US APART FROM THE REST?

In short, a degree and over 300 hours of supervised practical clinical experience.

This covers a broad range of biological and social science subjects and provides us with an intricate understanding of the human body, the digestive system, pathology, pharmacology and nutritional biochemistry (to name but a few).

And ultimately means we are qualified to assist in the diagnosis and management of medical conditions.

👩🏼‍⚕️WHAT CAN A CLINICAL NUTRITIONIST HELP WITH?

🏋🏼‍♀️ Sports nutrition
🍽 Weight loss
💃🏼 Increased energy
💩 Digestive issues
🧘‍♀️ Stress and anxiety
😴 Improved sleep
🥕 Hormonal dysregulation
🤰 Fertility and preconception care
🤧 Immune disorders
❤️ Cardiovascular health
🥦 Skin disorders
🍎 General wellbeing

👉🏼 When searching for a nutritionist, always check a persons credentials before working with them.

By opting for a clinical nutritionist, you know you’ll be getting advice you can trust 🙌🏼 taken in Bondi Beach by @emwadeats

So proud of my beautiful friend @misslucywood_ for releasing her new podcast FULL AS F*CK around disordered eating.

And also INCREDIBLY honoured to be her first guest on the show! 🥰💗

Our chat includes all things health, female hormones, training, body image, self care, stress, meditation, mindset and (like always when me and Luce get together) a lot of laughs!

There’s some really thought provoking stuff in here relatable for everyone so I highly encourage everyone to give it a listen.

Tune in on Spotify - link in my bio - and please give it a listen, a like and a share, and let us know what you thought in the comments below 🤓

Of course, if you would like any help around any of the subjects raised in this episode, please feel free to get in touch. taken in Bondi Beach by @emwadeats

One little piece of paper.... 5 years of bloody hard work!!
.
I’m not going to lie, I’m INCREDIBLY F***ING PROUD OF MYSELF for this one!
.
It takes an immense amount of sacrifice, tears (and tequila! 🥴😉) to complete a health science degree, and I saw a lot of people drop out along the way, but the bit I’m probably most proud of is the person I was forced to become as a result of it all.
.
The girl that started this degree was unaware, incapable of managing her stress levels, and had no idea of the anxiety-induced sh*tstorm she was about to endure 🤣
.
The woman I am today is proudly the polar opposite of that girl, and over the years I have learnt invaluable skills that have set me up for life and I’m so excited to pass these on to my clients moving forward.
.
As well as all things biology, chemistry, pathology, pharmacology and human nutrition (to name but a few), I also learnt how to:
.
👉🏼 nourish my body and mind based on my own UNIQUE and INDIVIDUAL needs
👉🏼 create a positive relationship with both exercise and food
👉🏼 manage my expectations of self
👉🏼 recognise and reframe limiting beliefs and associated thoughts
👉🏼 positively alter my perception of ‘negative’ life events
👉🏼 regulate my emotional responses
👉🏼 effectively manage my stress levels
👉🏼 listen to my body
👉🏼 prioritise self-care
👉🏼 slow down and be still, and
👉🏼 create real balance with a heavy workload in an often chaotic world
.
Because of these lessons I can honestly say that the last year of my degree was an absolute bloody ball! And I am SO grateful for all the wonderful experiences I’ve had and all the absolute legends I got to share them with along the way 💗

I’ve just started the process of setting up my business and will be officially opening my books within the next month 🥳 by @emwadeats

IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA - IDENTIFYING THE UNDERLYING CAUSE
.
So you’ve had the appropriate pathology carried out by your healthcare practitioner and iron deficiency anaemia has been confirmed.
.
So a course of iron supplementation should fix you up no problem, right?
.
However, that’s often not the case.
.
And while a blood transfusion and/or iron infusion are great for providing short-term relief, these are often just a temporary fix.
.
To really get on top of this sometimes complex condition, it's vital to identify (and fix!) the underlying cause.
.
A good healthcare professional will help you navigate your way through this to fully understand what factors are driving the condition for you. by @emwadeats

IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA - SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
.
My first post in this series highlighted how much iron the average person needs in their diet, and how, for some, getting enough iron can be challenging. So how do you know if you’re deficient?
.
If you’re experiencing some or all of the above symptoms, it's possible you could be suffering from iron deficiency anaemia.
.
But before you go all 'Dr Gram' on me and start self-medicating with iron, it’s important to note the following... many of the symptoms of iron deficiency can be seen in other conditions, including iron overload!
.
Iron in excess can be extremely damaging to the body and that’s why iron supplementation should only ever be commenced on advice from an appropriate healthcare professional (that’s a GP, dietitian or degree qualified clinical nutritionist) after the appropriate pathology has been carried out.
.
Feel free to get in touch if you think you might need help with this.
.
If you’ve already been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia and are struggling to manage this through supplementation, a comprehensive assessment can help you to understand why.
.
Keep an eye out for more on this in my upcoming posts.
.
