STOLEN SCHOOL confronts the reality that desegregation wasn’t good for everyone.

In 1967, the local school district in Evanston, IL “desegregated” its schools by closing Foster School, the all-Black neighborhood school in the historically Black 5th ward. For nearly 60 years, children who live there have been bussed all across Evanston. Stolen School features the voices and stories of Foster School students, 5th Ward residents, educators, civil servants, and activists who describe their devastating losses and chronicle their ongoing fight to get their school back.

Screening tomorrow @nublockmuseum — RSVP in bio!

One-year ago, the Evanston community allowed us into their homes. And just like the care we promised to take while in these spaces, we made it our priority to do the same with their stories. Thank you ❤️ taken in Evanston, Illinois by @endangeredpeace

Good people — we hope that you’ve been taking care of yourselves, inside and out. In the spirit of survival, here’s a look at a recent project we recently wrapped featuring some of the strongest, and most beautiful people we’ve had the pleasure to work with. It was an honor to tell their stories.

But Yet, They Rise, seeks to elevate Black women’s experiences and highlight their stories of survivorship. The film was produced as part of the Patient Advocate Foundation’s (PAF) Ignite Campaign which focuses on raising awareness of the impact of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) on Black women. ❤️🖤💚

December 6th was a very special day. Two of our films screened on the same evening! “Stolen School” at the AMC in Evanston, and “But Yet, They Rise: Stories of Breast Cancer Survivorship” at the Ramova in Bridgeport. At first we weren’t sure how we’d make both—but we did, and it was worth it!

The evening was filled with incredible films, meaningful conversations, and beautiful moments to connect with our community and meet new faces.

Huge thanks to:
Dr. Kihana Maraya Ross
Dr. Shannon Clark
Shorefront Legacy Center
Patient Advocate Foundation
for having us. We’re beyond grateful for the opportunity to bring these projects to life and can’t wait to see what the future holds for both!

✨Hello EP Fam! 🎞️🖤✨

I’m Kin Marie, stepping in as EP’s new Production Coordinator and Creative Assistant, following in the footsteps of the amazing Jellystone Robinson ( @jellyfru1t ). I couldn’t be more excited to connect, create, and grow with all of you!

A little about me—I’m a Chicago-based artist and filmmaker born and raised on the South Side. My work centers the visual culture of Black and queer identities*, exploring these experiences through both everyday and interpretive lenses.

In 2023, I had the honor of being named Chicago’s Best Filmmaker by the Chicago Reader and graduated from both the Beth Morrison Projects Producer Academy and the School for Poetic Computation, where I dove deep into the intersection of art and technology. I love using visual media as a tool for research and experimentation, exploring how art shapes and is shaped by social space.

Can’t wait to dive into this new chapter with all of you! Let’s make magic together ✨
