Black Family Archive is a Black Image Center quarterly program that brings Black families across Los Angeles together in celebration of intergenerational bonds of love and kinship that build our communities. For this iteration of Black Family Archive, join us at Peri+Ren gallery in Lincoln Heights for Ode2LA’s Roots + Routes Exhibition (on view August 31 - September 29).

The Ode2LA Archive Project is dedicated to preserving and illuminating the diverse stories that make up the rich cultural mosaic of Los Angeles. Through its collection of personal narratives and visual documentation, the archive captures the essence of the city's multifaceted communities, offering an intimate glimpse into the lives and experiences of its residents.

+ Honor your family archive by engaging with it and learning about how to preserve your images for years to come.
+ Contribute to Ode2LA’s archive of Los Angeles by recording a mini oral history narrative with OdeLA’s lead archivist— Madelyn Inez
+ Print your digitized family photos or born-digital images.
+ Turn your family photos into coloring pages to share your family heritage across generations
+ Consult with photograph conservator Ronel Namde on your questions around preservation and access archival grade storage materials which will help you preserve your materials for generations. by @endiyaah

22! 🌞🌱 and blessed to be surrounded by love, joy, life & community! What started as a vacant lot on the South Side of Chicago and a handful of seeds has blossomed into profoundly abundant healing and possibility. I’m so grateful to be standing in the manifestation of collective work and responsibility @mamamooreregeneration. Excited for what’s to come. All praise to the most high! taken in Chicago, Illinois by @endiyaah

Last Sunday I had the honor of debuting a new evolution in my archival practice called “Coloring Our Story” in collaboration w my frennn @madelyniinez and @blackimagecenter 🫶🏽💐

“Coloring Our Story” invites families to share photographic heirlooms which I transform into custom coloring pages that inspire us to re-imagine & steward the past as we take hold of our collective future.
