One year ago today I left work early to go to the ER. I arrived at Wellsville with a 101 fever and severely dehydrated. They gave me transfer papers and was sent to Strong Memorial where I arrived to triage with a 103 degree fever, nearly passing out in line, and gifted an immediate ekg because my heart rate was so high. I spent 12 hours in the ER, at one point I was sure my friend Kevin was on the other side of the curtain like a security guard from the other side. 3 days in the hospital due to an infection caused by a gallstone caught on the stent they put in my liver duct.
I’ve been gaslighting myself all morning and almost took my temperature, but I’m fighting against my anxieties. Yesterday I coincidentally wore the same tshirt and socks from that day. Yes, I know what socks I was wearing the day I nearly died in the Rochester ER.
Anyway, I treated myself recently to new headphones and the hoodie (though my friend actually bought me the hoodie at the show). During the meet and greet, the tour manager taking photos turned our phones for a canted angle, today my phone slipped into a canted angle. Cheers to coincidences and a year without the ER.

End of summer has me thinking about fall 2014 in the Capitol Studios warehouse.
Sitting on the stoop outside the entrance next to our unit, feet from San Fernando Road, the sun going down past Elysian Park’s trees and the electric pylons lining the LA River.
Over a decade on and I can’t recall what thoughts may have been in my head except how to escape the thoughts in my head.
This one, though, was taken waiting for dinner so I could move onto the next thought.

I broke a 9 year concert hiatus to see @phantogram even splurged for VIP tickets and was accompanied by my friend Abbie.
The show was amazing, they know how to play together and are so sincere to meet in person. I gifted them the first VHS pouches I made, their reactions were perfect. Everything was perfect.
But especially our shoe game. Look at all four of our shoes, goddamn.

It’s been a very surreal and hard year on me. Spike and I took a walk at our usual time during the equinox and he looked over the creek like a majestic being and it did feel majestic.
Im so exhausted from the last 9 months, I don’t even know what to say, so here’s Pete & Pete.

I read a book when I was 9 called Stories to Tell at Dusk. The stories were eerie, not inherently scary, leaving a serene feeling of things ending. One story was ghost children in the winter sledding until dusk.

One time in 2016 Valerie proposed to me we shoot a scene from my script, Albatross. I agreed immediately and we talked about the scene, my favorite scene of that draft, and the possibility of me playing Missy. This is the one and only time I’ve ever acted and it was hard. My scene partner, friend and fellow How Movies Work classmate, Nick, was far more seasoned, but treated me with grace.
This is the only time anything from Albatross has been shot despite years of trying, almost getting financing once, and one time making the semi-finals at Austin Film Fest.
Valerie sent me this photo the other day, it gave me so many feels. That was my room on Everett St shortly after moving from 2121. Being ten years out and seeing myself brave enough to step in front of the camera (I’ve never seen footage, but I’m sure I’m terrible), but also seeing how we looked from the audience perspective is also jarring the urge to want to make Albatross again. This is between takes, but I also see Missy and Freddie in her bed because of night terrors and best friend shit.
While I chug away at the new script, there’s portions of Albatross prose on the link in my bio.
If anyone still knows Nick, please send him my love and I hope he’s doing well.

I fretted about posting this today and then I fretted about taking a photo for it, but I like this one - my coworker and I have a thing about sending each other photos as such, this was mine today.
Today marks 8 years since my last drink - a gin and tonic at The Holloway with Taleen. It wasn’t planned to be the last one, the decision came a few days later.
The second photo is from 10 years ago, taken while working at Propagate where my first day involved a Lyft to pickup my car from the July 4th party and daily lunch at Loaded downstairs where they had a two beer special.
This has been a long year following a few hard losses and hitting midlife as an elder millennial with an abnormal (artist) brain, but I’m glad I’m sober for it.
There’s a couple people who were there in my journey to sobriety that helped me immensely, I won’t name them, most of you know who you are and those that don’t it’s likely because you’ve shared your story in some capacity, so I’ll close with this:
No one’s journey looks the same, but you’re not alone.

I’ve started to write about my journey caring for Spike with Cushing’s Disease because while I’ve perused the subreddit and FB group, there’s no one place that tells you like it is.
It’s not a full journal, I’ve tried to keep it focused on the pups and my general feelings because the thing about Cushing’s is there is no map to treatment. It can change on a dime with no foreshadowing and you as the caretaker can only do your best with your resources.
Don’t feel obligated to tip anything on here, everything is made public, if anyone does decide to “buy me a coffee”, it’ll be greatly appreciated and go right toward Spike’s medication.

I’ve been cafe starved. Like for a real cafe. You know, with vibes - the lighting matching the jazz playing and no live laugh love decor, solid coffee and 1883 syrups sold for one price because there’s only one size…
I knew this place had opened just down yonder in Bradford, but it wasn’t until yesterday when I started the morning good with Spike - no incidents - and a phone call from the vet - he has hypothyroidism and I need to pick up the medication.
So far this year, I lost out on a house I was in contract for, spike was diagnosed with Cushings, I’ve been covered in my partner’s blood (he’s fine), cared for Dottie to her end, turned 41, and watched Spike have a reaction to his medication so I thought I was about to lose him.
So I left everyone in NY and drove my Ford Ranger to the vet and then to this cafe for a slice of lemon coffee cake and a toasted marshmallow latte.
I left it all on the table.
