Fortune's Mirror is out now on all listening platforms via @vdsqrecords and @theblackeditions

Thanks to the endlessly kind, generous and talented @patrickshiroishi for playing saxophone on the final track. Patrick was one of the very first friends I made in LA. love his music so much, and I love how the song turned out.

@daggasound mixed, produced and provided INFINITE patience and know-how through the entire process. These songs went through more than a few different iterations, and I think we ended up with something really cool. He's a top guy, folks!

@lizeon was nice enough to let us use some of her breathtaking paintings on the cover and inner sleeve. The record looks absolutely incredible, and my hastily taken, poorly-lit photos really don't do it justice.

@williamtylertn wrote some very kind and thoughtful words about the album. I've admired William's music for over a decade now, and his record "Impossible Truth" pretty much served as my introduction to the world of solo guitar music. Over the past couple years we've become good friends, and that makes me feel good things about life and music that I have a hard time articulating this early in the morning.

Design and layout by Rob Carmichael at @seenstudio

Mastered by Jeffrey Yellen at @ridgelinesound

And of course, none of the above would've transpired if not for Steve Lowenthal of @vdsqrecords planting the seeds for the whole project. Had he not suggested it when we first met a few years ago, I honestly don't think I ever would've written a full record of solo guitar music. On top of that, he kept believing in it, even when it very easily could've gone off the rails many times over. Very thankful for that.

Anyway that's all I got! Thanks so much for listening, hope you enjoy.

Played an old one and two new ones for @yellowhousesessions and had a great time. Thanks @ninaraj and @erikshute for letting me come and sweatily play guitar in your beautiful backyard, and for the amazing video work.

Thanks @mikedeluccia for the top-notch recording and mixing! Was so stoked to get to do this; YHS videos always look and sound so incredible. Full session is available for viewing at ye olde bio-link place. by @endlesstuning

BARRY JOHNSON

Solo instrumentalists navigate a free and rambling road through an imaginative, oneiric wilderness. So much expressed without singing/words, a direct power line to the psyche, open for interpretation and brimming with melancholy, joy, and somber reflection. The annals of solo guitar music, much like solo piano, can tap into these almost subliminal lines of communication. The new album/debut LP from Los Angeles by way of Michigan guitarist/flautist/songwriter Barry Archie Johnson sings out as a startling and gorgeous new voice in guitar centered landscapes.

HEATHER WOODS BRODERICK

Heather Woods Broderick excels at distilling her experiences into a soulful melancholy that’s enduring both for its intimate relatable moments and its persistent sense of mystery. Her uncanny ear for evocative production and gorgeous vocal harmonies serves her well throughout her work. Across her discography, the rich dreamlike
atmospheres she creates hint at a darkness looming on the horizon, while the singularity of her ethereal voice always seems to linger long after the music has stopped.

Limited tickets remaining for 4/13 at @philosophical_research_society with @heatherwoodsbroderick and @itstroyeverett

This will be fun! I'm gonna play a lot material from Fortune's Mirror, with full flute/viola accompaniment from Heather and Troy. Also, Heather is an absolutely phenominal songwriter. A longtime favorite of mine. And ya know what else? The lecture room at PRS is beautiful. Genuinely can't wait! taken in The Philosophical Research Society by @endlesstuning

This Thursday, I'll be joining the legend Owen Ashworth of @advance_base for a night of midwestern melancholy at @scribble.community

Unfortunately Aaron had to drop of the show due to illness, but said show must go on, and we'll be swaying gently in his honor. Doors @ 7:30, and I believe I'm on sometime around 8:15. I'll see you at the haunted lighthouse. taken in Scribble by @endlesstuning

𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬: a four-session virtual guitar workshop exploring open tunings as pathways to intuitive songcraft.
Sundays in February at 12p PT / 3p ET

We’re back! I led this workshop for the first time in summer 2023, and it was deeply rewarding and inspiring. I came away with reinvigoration for my own guitar practice through this container of conversation and accountability, and so much connection to other curious musicians.

(ALSO after a period of rest we are reinvigorating @collectivecadence, my ever-burgeoning vision for an interdisciplinary community space)

This time I’m having @amarillohighway and @endlesstuning join for the 2nd and 3rd week to open conversations and offer prompts / exercises. Both of them are inspiring and very tuned-in guitarists, and I’m grateful they’re going to be a part of this with me.

hannahfrancesmusic.com (linked in bio) is where you can enroll.
Sliding scale exchange is $80–180, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
DM or email me — hannah@hannahfrancesmusic.com if you have questions, need financial accommodation, or anything else.
