I competed in my first Gi BJJ competition at 37 years old.

My son is the reason I’m competing because I’d like him to compete in Gi BJJ one day as well.

The match ended with 0 - 0 points. My opponent won by 1 advantage due to his ankle lock attempt.

He tried a few judo attempts but my wrestling base was too solid (thank you @damonnguyenjiujitsu).

He pulled guard and couldn’t sweep me for the rest of the match despite throwing the entire guard library at me— closed guard, spider guard, lasso, and De La Riva.

It's unrealistic to expect myself to beat a 21-year-old with 15 competitive matches under his belt.

I’m proud of my performance because I executed everything I practiced.

1. I gassed out a much younger opponent by putting my top pressure on him and letting him crank on the ankle lock submission that he didn’t have.

2. I didn’t get swept the whole match because my coach Duong has a much more dangerous guard. And my friend @edwardnhadoan showed me how to pass the main Gi BJJ guards.

3. I breathed well the whole match, despite the pressure from the audience and my opponent.

4. I finished the match with plenty of gas still in the tank.

I feel much more confident in my BJJ now and my mentral toughess/resilience has improved through this experience.

It was hard.

I had to cut some bad habits, be disciplined about what I ate, and I barely got any sleep the night before.

But the satisfaction after the experience is something that can’t be put in words.

I put myself out there to potentially be submitted infront of 100+ people and my son, but in the end, my defenses held up.

I didn’t have to use any of the escapes I practiced.

Our first international family trip ✈️🤍

Traveling with a toddler is definitely an adventure of its own. The packing, the airport chaos, the naps, the meals, the little tantrums, and all the things we never had to think about before becoming parents. 😂 But somehow, those are the moments that make this trip so special.
Big thanks to Ba to extend the trip to let our family can explore more 🫶🏽 5 ⭐️ airline, big suite with kitchen and living room at 5 ⭐️ hotel and super good food. Absolutely amazing!✨

Watching Dash discover a new country at just two years old was something I’ll always treasure.
He may not remember this trip when he grows up. He probably won’t remember the hotel, the flights, or the places we visited. But we hope that, somehow, these experiences become part of his childhood — growing up knowing that the world is big, beautiful, and full of places waiting to be discovered.

And for us, this trip is a reminder that family memories don’t have to be perfect. They just have to be ours.🤎

Chồng tui hay ngẫu hứng dẫn đi ăn chỗ này chỗ kia. Còn tui thì ngẫu hứng mặc gì gọn gọn thoải mái, đi mua đồ chút về ăn diện làm gì. Vậy đó cái nhiều khi vô nhà hàng ăn ngon mắc mắc cái mặc đồ thấy ghê hông chứ 😅
Khi mà mỗi ngày được trân trọng thì bạn sẽ không còn trông chờ những dịp đặc biệt vì vốn dĩ bạn là điều đặc biệt rồi 🤎
