💻 What We Do:
⠀
ENGin is a nonprofit organization founded in 2020 by Ukrainian-American Katerina Manoff. We connect Ukrainians with English-speaking volunteers from around the world for free weekly online conversations. Each participant is matched with a speaking buddy with whom they meet throughout the program.
⠀
In the past five years, we've helped 29,000 students enhance their English skills, discover new cultures, and build international friendships. We’ve provided 26,000 volunteers a rewarding opportunity to make an impact through authentic communication (as of April 2025, and these numbers are constantly growing!)

⠀

💪 Over the last seven weeks, our community went the distance. Today, we get to celebrate crossing the finish line. 🏃‍♀️
 ⠀
🌟 Months before we launched our First Bell campaign, two high school seniors in Illinois were already leading the way. ENGin volunteer Linden Pace and her friend Evan Spear started training in June for the Chicago Half Marathon, dedicating their 13.1 miles to Ukraine. Their goal: raise $5,000 for adult student scholarships at ENGin. On September 27, they finished their race in Chicago and raised far more in donations than they’d hoped.
 ⠀
❤️‍🔥 This fall, our entire ENGin community – volunteers, students, and their families and friends – also set out to raise $40,000 to support scholarships for 400 Ukrainian students, making a year of ENGin possible for children 17 and under, adults facing financial hardship, active-duty military personnel, and veterans. Thanks to all of you, we not only met our goal, we received additional gifts that will help sustain our program.
 ⠀
✨ Your generosity will mean full access to ENGin – a year of cross-cultural connection and online English conversation practice – for hundreds of students. For some, it will be the start of their ENGin journey. For others, it will be a continuation of their meetings, allowing them to build on their language skills and gain more confidence.
 ⠀
💙💛 To everyone who answered the call these last few weeks, thank you for your kindness and commitment to Ukraine’s future. And Linden and Evan, thank you for showing up for others and helping us all achieve something greater than ourselves. by @enginprogram

🇺🇦 Right now, 200 Ukrainians are on our waiting list. They have applied, passed their interview, and are ready for their first conversation. Some of them are teenagers, some are adults, and all of them are waiting for a person on the other side of the screen who has one free hour a week to speak.
 ⠀
Life in Ukraine right now means constant attacks, power outages, air raid alerts, psychological pressure and uncertainty that never really goes away. ❤️‍🩹 For many of our 40,000 Ukrainian participants, that one hour a week with their volunteer has become a part of their life that feels different from everything else. Not a lesson, not a task, just a conversation with someone in another part of the world who chose to show up for them.
 ⠀
🔗 If you can volunteer, join us at enginprogram.org/volunteer.
 ⠀
📧 If you are already a volunteer and have space for another student, reach out to us.
 ⠀
📣 And if you know someone who would be great at this, send them this post. One share from you could be the reason someone in Ukraine gets matched this week.

🌟 We’re excited to welcome four new members to our Board of Directors!
 ⠀
📌 ENGin’s board is our organization’s highest governing body, overseeing our strategy, finances, and long-term direction. They are the people who make sure ENGin is growing the right way, staying true to its mission, and planning for the future.
 ⠀
🤩 This fall, we added four new members to the board, each of whom brings valued experience and perspectives. Scroll through the carousel to meet them ➡️
 ⠀
💙💛 We are grateful to our new members and to every person on our Board of Directors for giving their time, knowledge, energy to this program. We are looking forward to what we will build together! by @enginprogram

🤓 Have you ever greeted your student in Ukrainian? Even a simple "Pryvit!" ("hi" in Ukrainian) can make their face light up. If you haven't yet, try it during your next session. When you learn a few words in someone else's language, you show them that you care about their whole world — not just their English.
 ⠀
😍 That's exactly why we created "Ukrainian in Action" — a video course for ENGin volunteers who want to get to know their students a little better. Ten short lessons on everyday expressions, family, food, and traditions that you can watch whenever you have a free half hour. No prior knowledge of Ukrainian is needed to get started!
 ⠀
💗 All proceeds from the course go to support ENGin so that more Ukrainians can practice English with volunteers like you.
 ⠀
⏳ Pre-sale until October 15: $76.50 instead of $85. The course opens on October 16!

😍 75,000 participants. We keep saying the number out loud and it still does not feel real!
⠀
🧭 If you had told us this number six years ago, when ENGin was a small project born during the COVID lockdown with a handful of participants and a lot of hope, we would not have believed you.
⠀
🤩 But here it is: 40,000 Ukrainians and 35,000 volunteers from around the world have been part of ENGin. That is 40,000 people who decided to practice their English with a stranger from another country, even when they were nervous, even when the power went out, even when there were air raids. And 35,000 people who decided to give one hour of their week to someone in Ukraine, and then kept giving it, week after week, because somewhere along the way it stopped feeling like volunteering and started feeling like showing up for a friend.
⠀
❤️‍🔥 We think about this a lot, about what it means that so many people chose to be part of something that asks for nothing more than a conversation. No one gets a grade, no one is required to stay, and yet people do stay, sometimes for months, sometimes for years, sometimes long enough to meet each other in person on the other side of the world. It is the kind of thing that is hard to explain to someone who has not experienced it, and very easy to understand once you have.
⠀
💙💛 We carry this number with a lot of pride and a lot of gratitude to every student who trusted us, to every volunteer who showed up, to everyone who told a friend about ENGin and made this community a little bigger.
⠀
🌟 75,000 of you believed that a conversation could matter. It does, and thank you for proving it. by @enginprogram

💔 Before the full-scale invasion, they were living ordinary lives: running businesses, writing code, teaching classes, raising kids, making plans for the summer. Then February 2022 happened, and thousands of them made a choice that most people never have to face.
⠀
🇺🇦 Today, on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, we think about all of them. The ones who are serving right now, far from their families, in conditions that no training fully prepares you for. The ones who came home with injuries and are rebuilding their lives piece by piece. The ones who are in russian captivity, whose families are living in a kind of waiting that is impossible to describe. And the ones who will never come home at all.
⠀
Many of them see their children twice a year. Many of them were never soldiers before this war. They were regular people who stepped into something extraordinary because there was no other choice, and they have been doing it for more than four years now.
⠀
We think about their families too – the partners, parents, and children who carry the weight of this war every day alongside them, in a different way but no less heavily.
⠀
❤️‍🔥 The courage and resilience of Ukrainian Defenders are something we carry with us every day. We are with you, and we are working to make this road a little less heavy for you.
⠀
💪 If you are part of the ENGin community and want to support Ukraine's defenders, here is how you can do it every day: talk about what is happening in Ukraine with the people around you. Share real stories of real people who are fighting. Donate to trusted organizations that support defenders directly. And consider joining ENGin for Defenders as a volunteer, where you can meet a Ukrainian service member or veteran for weekly English conversations. Over 600 defenders are already in the program, and for many of them, that one hour a week is a rare break from everything else.

🔔 Meet Serhiy, an officer in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
⠀
Before the war, he ran a successful legal business in Sievierodonetsk. He's a husband and father of two girls, and has served in the UAF since voluntarily enlisting in May 2022.
⠀
💻 For the past year, he's met weekly with his ENGin volunteer in Los Angeles. Despite growing up on opposite sides of the world, they've found a lot in common: "We read the same books, listen to similar music, and even have almost identical guitars," Serhiy says.
⠀
💬 Their conversations have become something he looks forward to each week. "While studying the language, I get a chance to step away from daily military routine and cope more easily with long separation from my family," he says. "It's about friendly conversation with a person who has enough patience and warmth to understand not just what I'm trying to say, but what I'm feeling."
⠀
🇺🇦 Through ENGin for Defenders, we've matched 600 Ukrainian active-duty military and veterans, people like Serhiy, with English-speaking volunteers around the world.
Our First Bell campaign has just days left. We're close to reaching our $40,000 goal, making a full year of ENGin possible for 400 students, including 200 defenders like Serhiy.

There is a city in southern Ukraine called Oleshky, in the Kherson region. russia has occupied it since the first days of the full-scale invasion in 2022. In June 2023, the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam flooded the city, and most residents left after that. Those who stayed were mostly elderly people, families with nowhere to go, and people with disabilities.
⠀
Today, an estimated 2,000 people remain in the city itself, with up to 6,000 across Oleshky and surrounding settlements, including about 200 children. They have no electricity, no gas, no running water, and no stable access to medicine. The last food delivery reached Oleshky on May 26, 2026. That was four months ago. Residents have been forced to cook over open fires and search for whatever food they can find, including grass.
⠀
The roads around the city are mined and exposed to drone attacks, making both supply deliveries and evacuation nearly impossible.
⠀
Ukraine has prepared an evacuation plan, agreed on civilian lists, and secured the readiness of the International Committee of the Red Cross. russia has not confirmed its willingness to proceed. The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide has drawn parallels between the blockade of Oleshky and the deliberate starvation of Ukrainians during the Holodomor.
⠀
Under international humanitarian law, an occupying power is required to ensure food and medical supplies for the civilian population. russia is not doing this.
⠀
We are sharing this because we refuse to stay silent about what russia is doing to Ukrainian civilians. If you are reading this, please share this post, talk about Oleshky in your communities, and contact your elected representatives to demand humanitarian access and civilian evacuation.
